help with fitting Takata harness with comptech roll bar on oem stock seat!

i was thinking to fit the takata harness

unstich the thread and take off the clip, no cutting necessary, to not ruin the integrity of the belt

get a 3bar's (a buckle) per a shoulder harness

run it through 3 bar, wrap around the bar, and run it back to the same 3 bar
tighten it up to the horizontal bars as close as possible

is this a better option than welding an eyebolt to the bar or what?
so basically this is converting a clip on style harness to a wrap around belt

thanks,
Greg

Greg,
I will be diving into this arena myself soon.
The only advice I can give is, don't cheap out and take short cuts, it could turn into your worst nightmare.

I know SOS is developing a harness bar, and should be ready next month according to Chris.
In the mean time, I'd go to a shop that deals with racing harnesses and pick their brain - show them what you have going on.

It will look like the pic below. Note this is not the same harness bar but the concept on using the 3-bar is the same.

Where did you buy those Takata harnesses?

That pic of the harness bar reminds me.....if anyone has access to a harness bar that does not involve cutting anything, please let me know. I need one. Thanks.

Somewhat off topic, but I think is pertinent for this topic. Is there anyone using sub-belt with OEM seats? I would like to see pics if anyone has it. What are you mounting it to and are you making a slot through the seat pad?
Thanks.

No, I'm talking about the submarine belt or better known as the 5th belt on a 5 point restraining system. I currently have simpson belts and using only 4 belts but I want to be able to use the sub belt otherwise the belt keeps moving up. Not good. Thanks if anyone is using a 5th belt with OEM seats let me know.

Yes, I just installed Simpson 5 point harnesses on a Comptech harness bar, with OEM seats. For the bottom belt, what I did was cut 2 slits in the leather seat back, way down near the hinge point of the seat back. Each one is just above the aluminum frame underneath there, about 2" in and 2" up from the corner. Then route the belt between the bottom and back seat cushions and on thru the slits to the bar. It works well, since you can just pull the belt back and stuff the metal clip between the bottom and back seat cushions to completely hide it when you are not using the harness. Makes the harness pretty much fully out of sight when not in use. And you don't have to cut a slot in the seat cushions at all. With the simpson sub belt, you pretty much have to do it this way, as the belt is not long enough to route up thru the seat bottom and still reach the buckle and the bar.

Question to you guys running OEM seats.

How tall are you? I'm 5'8" and there's no way that I can even wear a helmet with stock seats. I tried once at a drag strip. It's really fun driving the 1/4 mile with my head cocked to the side.

Yeah, I'm kinda small, 5'7", and the helmet is close to the roof. A few of my larger friends with OEM seats who use harnesses remove the bottom seat cushion from their seat when at the track. They keep it disconnected all the time, and just remove it when needed. One ("the NSXNut" here on Prime) even sewed a thin replacment cushion so he can route the bottom seat belt up thru it and not be sitting on aluminum. Most of the guys that remove it replace it with something thinner when they are at the track.

I just finished my Dali Bar and Simpson 5 pt harness install. The thing I like is I can just take out the shoulder straps in a few minutes so when not tracking there not in the way.

For all the folks who were interrested in my setup it is similar to the above. The subbelt is bolted to the floor.I had a leather guy stitch extra pieces of leather in the cut of the seat cushions.
