Help with deciding on a car

Just buy an 02+ NSX, they depreciate very little and there are so few of them. Better make it a supercharged one if you want to play with the big boys though otherwise it may feel slow "stock".

If you want a garage queen with high maintenance costs get the R8.
If you want a car that's awesome on the track but looks like everything else in it's family get the Porsche.
If you want a car you can drive virtually everyday, has the same maintenance costs as a Honda Civic, and is a true head turner with dynamite track capabilities, get an NSX.

Also, your wife will like you because you can fit a decent amount of groceries in the trunk.

In no way is an NSX as cheap as a civic to maintain. Total myth, its cheaper than other exotics yes but parts prices are very high and it shares very few parts with other Hondas.

You're absolutely right!

I had 132 empties to return last year, and I only had to carry one little 6 pack up front with me.

ALL parts prices aren't "very" high...certain things yes, but standard maintenance when compared to the other vehicles he has listed, is substantially cheaper. I just did a main relay (brand new $52), a thermostat ($27) and slave and master cylinder ($155) I don't consider any of that pricey in any way.

Folks,

Thanks for all of the replies and advice. It seems that the forum’s favorites, aside from the NSX of course, are the 993 Turbo and the R8. I drove the Lotus this week, and did not like the car. It felt VERY small on the road, the interior was subpar, and there were quite a few squeaks and rattles. On a positive note, the thing handled like it was on rails, and was surprisingly fast.

Someone suggested a C7 Corvette, I tend not to buy new cars, since the thought of rapid depreciation hurts my frugal nature, and in a couple of years there will be tons of C7s on the road, and I want something a bit exclusive.

I am planning a test drive of the Porsche this weekend. It’s not a Turbo, just an average 993 Carrera, but it should give me a rough idea of the vehicle’s dynamics. Also, I was talking to a few friends, and I did not realize how inexpensive the Aston Martin DB9 has gotten. That will be another car I will be adding to my list of test drives. Apparently you can pick-up an 08 in flawless condition, for about $60-70K, and the car is stunning inside and out. I will need to do some homework on its maintenance costs, and compare that to the Porsche.

Cheers
