Hello,

Whenever I drive in the stop and go traffic, check engine light would come out after ~ 15 minutes of driving. I would, then, turn off the engine and restart the car, and it would go away.

This never happens when I drive in the highway. Only when I am stuck in the traffic. Does anyone have any lead on this?

When I put the car into the diagnostic machine, everything is fine.

Thank you.

When you are getting the CEL, the computer should be storing a code. I'm not sure which code reader you are using, but I would use this technique: http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/DIY/trouble_codes.htm

Couple questions that might help in your diagnosis: Is the engine running as it should? Are all of the gauges reading normal? Have you had anything done recently that might have prompted the CEL?

HI Yong,

I will have my scanner with me at NSXPO, we can have a look and see what you are getting from the ECU:).

Opps, forgot you have an early car, we will have to pull the codes with the jumper lead.

According to the receipts from the previous owner, the only substantial thing that was replaced within the past 6 months was O2 sensor. Could this be the reason? I don't understand why it comes on and goes away when I restart the car, and why it happens only in the stop and go traffic (when it comes out, I feel the loss of power).

So it seems your car goes into emergency mode which is not always the case when the check engine light comes (in my car it nearly never was the case).

I would strongly suggest to try the DIY error code readout that was mentioned before to give you a hint.

Hey Tiger Man!
Did you ever find out what the problem was with the CEL?
I had a similar CEL come on when I was bedding in my new rotors & pads - I was doing alot of stop & go driving. However, once I was finished with the bedding process, the light never came on again.

Modern ECU's are pretty good and you should trust them. In your case, the ECU is not getting a good signal from the O2 sensors. If you've replaced them with OEM or better and you are still getting the code, look to your wiring. Look for the right pin order on the DC-supplied extensions and look for anywhere the wires may have been burned.

I doubt your car is running lean. If O2's aren't right, the NSX will stay in open loop and you will be rich.
