I need to paint my cars front due to lots of
chips and the previous owners poor choice in
an earlier paint job.
Just the plastic area needs work and I have the debate going on painting further to blend the work or removing the nose and painting seperate.
Any stories good or bad will help.
I'm also adding a WW chin spoiler at this time.
Just nervous about matching the color versus
ruining the original paint with a blending
beyond the nose to the hood.
Thanks in advance for your help!

if you think the front of your cars is bad look at the front end chips on mine. i really must do something about it.

i'd recomend keeping the front in place when painting use a place with a down draft booth.

Vinnie Hollar is the man to paint your NSX. His shop is on Meritt Island and he does great work. I know this first hand because he did paint work on my '94. Plus he owns an NSX too!

Unfortuantely at this time, I cannot seem to find his phone number.

yeah please do problem it i had an orlando shop do paint work before but i think Scott use's him also

Vinny has a lot of NSX paint experience & has even produced his own NSX sideskirts that are a replica of Marga Hills. Many Florida NSXers use his services. His shopm is called All Cars 1(321)453-6969.

I think you should find a good shop and take their advice. I've heard lots of good things about blending paint and would not be afraid to do this. But also look at your hood closely - if the front bumper is peppered with chips I bet your hood is too. Maybe even the leading edges of the front fenders. My car with 90,000 miles shows lots of wear on all these parts.

So does mine with 52K miles. When evaluating the market value of a car, this falls under the category of "wear consistent with the miles". Such wear is inevitable, other than trying to hang back from traffic, as mikec notes.

One downside to repainting the front end is that the process of accumulating chips will simply start all over again as soon as you drive it home from the body shop.

I hate to 'bash' or throw out negativity, but I've seen 3 cars that have been painted by Vinny and the work was just awful. I wouldn't accept that work on an Accord, much less an NSX. Now I am very picky but the orange peel couldn't have been worse if it were done with a roller. 2 of the 3 were cloudy and there was dust in all three. I'd look for a 'hot rod' type shop that does show cars, etc. as many of these shops can make it look like glass, dust free, no fish eyes, runs, no overspray/tape lines, as it should. JMO Sorry, but I know paintwork as I have owned many muscle cars, hot rods, show cars, etc..... Granted, this type of quality is expensive. For example, I had a 69 Camaro painted Candy Apple Cherry that cost over $6,000..... but it was like glass. By the way, to answer your question, remove the nose and paint it separately. No question. Do it right if you must do it at all.

Yeah Smoore I did notice!

And I might skip the repaint if it hadn't
already been done poorly before.(prior to me)
Thanks for the ideas! David H.

A little far away for roadrunner but Realistic Restorations in St Pete is the only place I would consider. You get what you pay for. Good paint work is very time consuming and as such expensive.
I had a '67 XKE done by them in black. It turned out like black chrome. So nice I feared driving it.

Unless you install the stoneguard 3M paint protection film. It really helps minimize the chips on the front of the car!

I was recently looking closely (and with disgust) at the paint job my car's previous owner had done on the nose. Not only is there orange-peel, but there's a scrape below the Acura emblem which is rather coincidentally the same shape as the emblem, and worst of all, there's a big freaking HAIR in the paint about six inches right of the emblem. Luckily, I was already determined to get it redone before I saw this.

What gets me is they matched the color pretty well and then did this crappy work.

(This was done at Tustin Body Works if anyone cares to avoid them.)
