Help Clutch Pedal feels loose

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they know what's wrong. Yesterday morning I notices the clutch pedal felt loose. The car went into all gears no problem but the clutch resistance had decreased. The pedal would go down quarter way before offering any kind of resistance. Took it for a spin last night. None of the gears were slipping...caught all gears nicely but was catching low and the pedal would go down almost half way before any resistance. The shifter then started feeling stiff going into gears but as mentioned earlier gears were catching without slipping...anyone know what might have happend?

I guess I shouldn't try and bleed out the fluid to get rid of the air in the system and put in fluid to get the pedal pressure up enough so it's safe to drive to the shop? I'm in Markham and have to tow to my buddies shop in the Weston and Finch area...might end up being a little pricy for someone that doesn't have CAA.

I had the same thing happen on My ITR years ago. I had to replace the clutch master cylinder and everything was good after that.

The mileage I had on the ITR was quite low and it still happened. Sometimes what happens is seals dry out because of under use, and parts break down prematurely.

Good luck with the diagnosis.

The clutch fluid system is a self bleeding system, meaning you dont need to flush the system to get the air bubbles out.

First, check the clutch fluid in the reservoir. If that is low, top it up with a DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid.

Then press you clutch pedal about a hundred times. This should "recycle" the fluid in the system and remove any air bubbles. Check your reservoir fluid level again and top up if necessary.

If you do need to replace the master/slave cylinders, as Bram said, do it as a pair. Also remember to buy the clutch slave hose as well.

@dablackgoku: hey man thanks for the tip. I got pressure back into the pedals and am able to shift into gears without hesitation. The fluid in the reservoir was close to the feed point into the hose so I topped it up with like 2-3 cap full to the limit point indicated on the reservoir. I then pumped it about 100 times and the pressure returned...but when I checked the fluid level after it didn't budge?

Man to top things off I keep getting an evap code. The first time I got it was 2 weeks back. Noticed the cap wasn't on tight so I tightened it and had the code reset. Shortly after that (like a week later) I got the code again so I got the code reset again and replaced the cap with a new one after a fill up. Made sure the cap clicked over like 3 times when I put it on. Just showed back up again...what else causes that code?

I'm having the exact same problem and posted it on the owners forum here. The advice I got there was about the same as what the Cdns have said in this thread :) I ordered a new master, slave and SS hose from Dali and it should be here by next week. I would think yours is fine by just bleeding but mine being 19 yrs old I'm gonna replace it to be safe.

sounds like your master cylinder mine went 2 years ago , it went out so bad that once i depressed the clutch it would not come up again and sometimes just 'flop' all the way down imagine that at a red light!

happened to mine too...clutch hit the floor...i pulled it up with my hand. i changed out both master and slave. now its perfect

Cars an 03...should this even be happening?

I have an 03, and my master went as well. It took about 1:15 to do the job. I didn't replace the slave, but what a bugger to do. Make sure you have flare wrench and a good hand to get that cotter pin back in!

Have fun!

Ohh I bought my parts from Tim @ oemacurworld.com

I bought the master the gasket and the two 8mm nuts and the cotter pin. It was like $140.00 dollars shipped to me house.

Yeah not even gonna attempt to do it myself. Dropped it off at my family friends shop today to get it done...not that committed to getting into tight spaces laying down in an awkward position. Backs a problem as it is and I've been trying to increase the number of lower back exercises I do at the gym to strengthen it unfortunately it hasn't helping a whole lot yet. Trying to do this is just asking for trouble.

Well the one good thing dropping it off is that you will not be coming up with new words today!!!!!That is a tight job to do. It is a qurter turn there flip over and a half turn there. Just a pain everything is tight even the slave! But mine is all good to go now plus I just changed a O2 sensor and the trans fluid. all good to go for the summer now!

Enjoy her when you get it back from the shop!!!

Hey sean how long is your car going to out of commission while you have the service done? whats the labor like on doing the service?

anyways hope you get her back soon...or else you will be going through some more additional withdrawal lol

lol...yeah almost started getting that today but I managed to get my car back (awesome! :) ). It ran me $700 but they changed the brake fluid and the clutch hose too. The wearables and regular maintenance on this car is maybe a bit cheaper than a BMW...to tell you the truth I didn't expect to have to do all the things I've had to do so far (recent service, water pump & timing belt with tune up)...I've spent over $3000.00 excluding the mods like lowering, the custom deck install and spacers. Definitely it for the next year or more. Anything else comes up I'm gonna park the car until I save up the cash to do the repairs..but it should be good to go now and I shouldn't have to...hopefully (that would suck). Car drives amazing and clutch is a lot smoother than it used to be. Feel bad as I totally blew the vehicle maintenance budget my wife and I set aside doing all this.

In other words driving the NSX will be reduced some for the rest of this season till I put back at least 50% of what I took out of our combined vehicle maintenance budget.

I dont understand this either. I have an 03 and I have spent more money into this car then my:
76 Civic
91 Civic
92 Prelude
01 Odessey
Even my Mercredes.

the only one that is the same is my 2005 chey pick up! Go figure....

Every time I am in first gear and have to drive a few blocks in that gear becasue of traffic, my check engine light goes on and off and it feels like the car wants to stall. Can any one explain ehy it would want to do that?

I think I will be like Sean, and just park the car!!!!! save the cash!!!!then I will do a rebuild on the engine.

I guess with a high performance car like this things like this are bound to happen...but think of it this way once its fixed any misc. repairs it will probably be good for a long time to come...all apart of the ownership experience i guess...id love to be in any of you guys situation right now lol id love to have an nsx sit in my garage rather then not have one at all ....
