Hi all, I just wanted to introduce myself. I am new to Europe, living in the colder part. I have been in Stavanger Norway for a few weeks now, and will be for a few years. My NSX will be coming end of December, it is on the boat from Houston Texas, my previous home now! I have been reading over the previous post, and you guys sound like a fun group. I look forward to getting involved and getting some seat time on some of these European Race Tracks that I have heard so much about. I have been a performance driving instructor in the US for many years, and will hopefully continue that here! Hope too meet you all soon!

FYI, you will find more info about the schedule of the European NSX Trophy races on the European NSX Club website : http://www.nsx.ch

Best regards,

Welcome to Europe and Norway.
I'm from Norway, but the Oslo area, which is about 6 hours away. I assume you're in the Oil industry?

Cool that you are bringing your NSX, there are a few tracks in Norway, but the ones you look for (like all the F1 circuits) will be on the continent. I have a few tips on trackdays if you want, but that will not be for a while because of the snow!! (hehe)
I believe you'll have the ONLY Acura NSX in Norway. The NSX community is not big, maybe 20-30 NSX'es, and they're not organized in any way.

Hi John and Biter

Got your email John. Welcome to Europe and Norway.

I am not sure that there are that many Nsx's in Norway. There is at least two Acura Nsx's in Norway. One in Svolvær up here in the north of Norway (for sale) and one Nsx-T white/black 1995 (or something) in the Oslo area.

Do not know of any more Acura's. But there are some Honda's.

There is a black one which is a Club Honda Norway member in Harstad just 110 kilometers from Narvik. Then a black in the south of Norway somewhere also a member. Then theres 2*1991 red/black ones in the Trondheim area. One in Tromsø too I think. Then a red 1994 in Trondheim too.

One soon in Stavanger which is John's.

Probably one here and there that I do not know of. Oh yeah the one in Oslo that is for sale with all the extras. Nice car.

Well thats about all the Nsx's I know of in Norway. Probably some more, but not that many I think. There are about 20-30 Nsx's in Sweden and less in Norway.. I would guess about 15 in Norway.

Then next year probably two more.. one for Biter and one for me :-)

Regards

Martin

All, thanks for the welcoming. I spent my first week in Norway in Olso. The head office of my company, Det Norske Veritas, is in Høvik. I am back in Stavanger now, where I will reside.

I was told by the Norwegian toll authoirty, here in Stavanger, that I will definately have the only one in Stavanger, or that his records did not indicate others.

I have owned mine for about 4.5 years now. It is moderately modified. Mostly a track car, but can be driven on the street. I will also have my Land Rover here, so will be fine in the winter months! I have access to nice garage storage for both here, and heated garage with tools for working and modifying.

I spent my last weekend in the US at the NSXCA national gathering in Dallas/Fort Worth. Playing with Mark Johnson (some of you know him) at Motor Sports Ranch, and Texas Motor Speedway. We had a great turn our with close to 100 NSXes. I am used to tracking my car at least once, sometimes twice or three times per month, so I will probably have withdrawls soon. Summer will not come soon enough!

BTW, do any of you know of any modifications I will need to make to make the Acura (USA Specification Car) registerable in Norway? Is so, let me know.

I see no reason why you want to register the car in Norway unless you plan to stay hare for a long time and sell the car here before you go back. To register the car, you need to pay toll and taxes, which is a LOT of money. I.e. a 1991 NSX costs, 30 000$ in the US, after the Norwegian stupid toll and taxes, expect to pay 20 000$ in ADITION to the 30 grand, totalling 50 000!!

You should be able to drive with your US plates if you are only staying for a few years. Do that, and worry about the tax if your stay is permanent. There used to be a rule so that you were allowed to import one car from another country without paying tax. Check with the local customs dep. when the car arrives. (I'm not sure when they plan to terminate this rule, but they are terminationg it.)

If you do decide to register it, they require the title, a document that proves weight, displacement and hp. You also need a type certification that can be purchased from Honda Norway. (200 dollars)
I imported a CRX from the US 5 years ago and import cars from germany now, that's how I know.

Hi

It is true what Biter says..it is crazy. Cars are _very_ expencive here in Norway.

I have no experience with import, but you can drive your car without register it in Norway and then you only have to pay vat on the amount you paid for your car and not tax.

(Maybe not even that because you have had it for many years.)

Lot of rules and stuff.

I know of one NSX that is not registered and sells for 205.000,- NOK without tax and 350.000,- with tax. It is imported from Switzerland and he drives around on "test plates" which dealers usually have. Not sure how glad the insurance company are thoug..

I am not sure how the rules are for driving with US plates in Norway. But what I _do_ know is that the norwegian goverment will try to take your money any way they can. So be sure that when you decide what to do that it is really what you want to do.

I am bringing a vehicle in under this law, but it is the Land Rover. It would have cost more to pay the Tax, Tolls, and Registration on the Rover than the NSX, so I am choosing to import it under that rule. The rule expires on June, 3rd, of 2003. You have to have owned the vehicle since October the 11th of 2000, and have not lived in Norway for the last 5 years to qualify. I was not informed of any ways that I would be able to drive the NSX without registering it?!?!? If there is one, please inform. I was only thinking that if I did not register it, I could trailer it around to various tracks pulling with the Rover. I was told I can drive the Rover on Texas plates for a few weeks, until the Norwegian plates come in.

You are close with the cost estimate. Norwegian toll authority e-mailed me the cost. $8,000.00 USD for Tax, $1,400.00 USD for Tolls, and $13,000.00 USD for Registration. Totaling approx. $22,500.00 USD, on top of the cost of the car in the US. My car would go for about $32-$33k in the US based on the modification I have done. It then becomes a $55,000.00 USD car. Which means when I go to sell it, I need at least that to justify the sell. Are older NSXes selling for that much here? If not, I will save the $13,000.00 USD registration cost, since it would be unrecoverable!?!?

Are there poeple out there driving in Norway, semi long term, on other than Norwegian resgistered plates?!?????

I can use any infrmation that you guys can provide!!!!

Takk!!!!

Yes, NSX'es sell for 400-450 000 kroner, 55-60000 dollars for a clean 1991, so if you plan to sell it here before you go back, you will not loose much.
Since you are bringing in 2 cars, you have to import one of them "legally" and the NSX will be cheaper. I do however have a friend of mine drove around with US plates and US insurance on his Jetta last year. I would do this and worry about the legal stuff if you get pulled over. You are living here temporary, so you are technically not doing anything wrong. He aslo had his insurance company in the state issue a "abroad" insurance and if you do that you'll be fine. If a cop ask about the US plates, just say that you're staying temporary and you should be fine.

here is a link on my website (www.jexoticar.com) how to calculate tax and toll http://www.runeb.org/www_docs/Jexoticasite/frames/importregn.htm

Fakturapris = price of car in the US

Frakt: shipping costs.

Vekt: Weight

CCM: displacement in cubic cm. (about 3000 for nsx)

KW: kolowatts, about 200 for the nsx

Bruksfradrag år: how many yeas the car is.
