Hello everyone!

As of June 1st I am the proud owner of a 2000 NFR 6-speed. I have wanted an NSX every since I became interested in cars, in fact my first car was a Fiero because it was the closest to an NSX that I could afford when I was 16. I turned 40 this year and decided it was time to take the leap.

The car is a 2000, as noted, and has just under 60k miles. It was wrecked in 2020 when the driver went too fast on an off ramp and spun along an embankment - it damaged a bunch of body panels but only did a small amount of damage to the DS front frame rail. It was totaled out, and bought from salvage auction by owner #2 for his 18-year-old son. They installed a Pride Carbon widebody kit and a few other Pride parts to replace the damaged panels. The car also has KW V3 coilovers and a professionally-installed S2000 dash conversion.

They previous owners made some...questionable modification choices, so the first order of business is going to be to put the car right. It currently doesn't have front turn signals because of the Pride bumper, and the rear LED-conversion tail lights need a lot of attention. That is fine by me though, the car is mechanically in excellent shape and I was able to pick it up for about $25k less than a clean/unwrecked car in the same condition/mileage.

I already have a supercharged S2000, so I am not planning on any power mods in the future, but I will probably put some braces and a set of swaybars on the car, plus I am planning on painting the hood body color, and the wing/mirrors/pillars/roof gloss black. I always loved the cockpit-look of the early cars. I am also going to lose those carbon side scoops, they are a bit much.

Anyway, I am a little intimidated by all of the work ahead of me to make this car mine, but I am happy to be here and to have this dream finally come true! NSXPrime has already proven to be an invaluable resource of knowledge about these cars.

The level of knowledge here and the support you get are better than any other community I've been in. Depending on where you live you might have a local with a ton of knowledge as well. Join the FB group, and NSXCA as noted above and there won't be a question you have that will go unanswered. Looking forward to seeing the progress of this car on the boards!

Welcome to Prime! I'm sure it will be a huge resource for you as it was for me. I am so thankful for all of the help I've received from the experts here, and I hope I can play some forward. Post some engine bay shots in case @Honcho can spot any questionable corners cut in there.

You managed to find the best color, and it sounds like you will have it sorted soon. Agree with the canopy look - I'm thinking strongly about wrapping my canopy back to black as well. And those scoops - definitely ... interesting, to each their own I guess. I think I took about 20 lbs of decorative chrome out of my engine bay when I got mine.

But no front signals? Wow. Check out @centerpunch 's DRL mod while you're fixing them.

Welcome! You did very well because you scored the critical piece- a NA2 6-speed popup. The rest can be addressed over time. If the car runs ok, I like your idea of setting the body back. A NA2 NSX deserves to be set right. The community here can help set you up with good used parts. Looks like you need a front bumper, hood, side skirts and scoops. Believe it or not those aren't too hard to source at reasonable prices. Fenders and quarter panels are readily available.

When you have the panels off- take a minute to measure the control points on the front rails to check of it's square. You can download the body repair manual from the library.

I am actually not planning on taking the car totally back to stock. I was going to keep the widebody; I think I would slightly prefer a stock body but I really don't hate the design of the kit on the car. I am going to try to repair the failed connections in the LED tail lights, and I am going to add a universal driving light/turn signal set to the front bumper. One of the cars running this bumper did that it looks OK. See the Imola car at this link:

I am also going to remove those side scoops and probably trim a couple inches off of the front bumper - I don't dislike the design, but it goes down too far and the squareness of the splitter clashes with the side sills.

Regarding the damage, I have photos from before the wreck, it really didn't hit hard. It just damaged most of the panels, leading to it being totaled.

I have thoroughly inspected the car, and there is still a little bit of wrinkling at the extreme forward edge of the DS frame rail where the bumper attaches, but that is it. It looks like they were able to get it pulled out just enough - the bumper and other body panels are all straight.

Congrats on the purchase!!! Like you said, the damage doesn't look terrible but glad all of the body panels are straight. That S2K gauge cluster though... always loved that design and interface!

Oh that's not too bad at all. If that's the extent of it, you got a smoking deal!
