Heads up display??

Does anyone know of a HUD we can put in the NSX???? Or has anyone tried to retrofit one from like a Z06 or something??

I think this would be a great idea, I hate taking my eyes off the road at high speeds, I'm surprised no one has done it before.

It has been done before an I've seen it installed in two NSX's down here. The aftermarket version has a few cool features such as keeping a log of how high the rpms went, and how fast the car was driven. This is good for those times when you leave the car with a valet or stealership.

I would love to do a mod like this as well. Had it in the back of my mind for some time now but hadn't seen or heard of anyone doing it. Maybe you can figure out the solution Jadkar. =)

You're probably thinking of the Defi VSD or VSD2. However, these are now discontinued. Defi has a new product called the Defi VSD concept that is really exciting. Should have some of these in stock shortly. Thanks to Henry for the link. Check it out here:

The display looks good, but the unit is a little bulky. Is it possible to make it flush with the dash without damaging anything else? There would probably be a lot of work involved. Anyone done this before?

You'd need to build an enclosure, or cut into the dash if you wanted the unit flush mounted. Although the unit is visible, you can see by this picture that it is lower profile than the photo above.

In your most recent picture, it doesn't look that bad, but I would prefer if it was hidden like the C5 vette I had. When you click on that link you provided, the picture looks much bulkier and has all those meters around it. I hope they are not needed too?

The meters are not required. The control unit 2 computer is required however for this to run.

Is the display visible in bright sunlight? Is it an annoyance during long drives? Can it be turned on and off as needed? etc.

It doesn't interfere at all, it is not obtrusive, it is visible under all conditions. I had it on the left side of my windshield in my field of vision. It sounds like you perceive it to be much larger of a display than it actually is. There is no disruption in visibility at all. When I got rid of the vehicle, it was like going from DSL to a dial up agian.

I have a HUD in my car. It is the DEFI VSD2 unit(much smaller than the one Chris posted). It fits nicely in the left corner of the windshield. Looks great and shows everything you need to know.MPH, RPM,shift light, dimmer. Easy to hook up too. I will try to get an inside pic of it tonight.

It is visible in the window, only the numbers are backwards. Adds a hightech look to the car.

From searching the web, it looks like the basic HUD unit is about $400, and only displays Speed and Tach. The control unit would allow you to display more paramaters and it is roughly $200.

Not that this compares but the HUD option on a vette is only $150 when I bought it in 99. $400-600 seems like a lot.
