Hey this is my first post here and Id like to say I have always admired NSX's. Where I live NSX's are the rarest of the bunch. Come to think of it last time I saw an NSX was about three years ago. Within three yeare I've seen numerous Supras, Vipers and Ferraris, one NSX. Shows how rare they are.

Its truely a beautiful car and there is one thing that caught my eye the last time I was looking at NSX's on Ebay. The headlight of the car have a very aggresive and exotic look to them. They don't open too high, are narrow and wide and have two circles staring at you. I fell in love with these lights because they remind me of a Ferrari for some reason.

I currently own an FD rx7, the 3rd gen kind. The headlights, quite frankly, suck ass on the car. I drive with mine on high beam and have never had anyone flash me. That shows how efficient they are. Many people have changed them to either a flush kit or the not so favorable sleepy eye kit. I think the flush kits are nice but the good ones are all way too expensive.

You have probably figured out where this is going by now. To get down to the point, I want to try and make the NSX headlight lens fit the FD spot. I know it will take wire splitting, fabrication and most of all money but no one has ever tried it and Im tired of driving on high beams without seeing two feet ahead of me. In other words I want this:

(not my car BTW)

Can it be done? I don't know. Thats why I need you guys. I need the dimensions of the headlight iteslf, not the whole thing just the lens. If someone could do that for me it would be greatly appreciated. If the fit is proper I will go ahead and look for some in your for sale section. I noticed they are not cheap by any standards, but I will dish out the extra funds if I have to. Thanks for your help guys!

As a former FD owner (93 CYM R1) I got involved in a lot of projects on that car. A LOT of projects...

The easiest was to bump up the wattage to 55w, that seemed to work without melting (at least not melting too much). Anything more than that melted a lot. (BTW: The JDM and I think CDN market used glass covers on the headlights...not plastic, so you might keep that in mind too.)

HIDs will work too.

Fixed light systems are on the market and seem to work well, but they are expensive!

As for your question: I don't know if they will work....

The NSX uses projector lights, they take up a lot of space. So you will need the entire assembly, not just the "lens". I can't remember if the FD has enough space for all of this...I don't think so...everything was really packed in there (depends on how stock your car is/was...less stock = more room).

At least one guy (Jeff Witzer) spent manys thousands on trying to make a kit and finally gave up.... http://mailer.uwf.edu/Lists/wa.exe?A2=ind9802&L=fl-rx7&F=&S=&P=141

Despite all of that: even the NSX's are being upgraded to HIDs. So I'm not sure what you are trying to gain now that HIDs are cheap and available.

Personally: Try out retrofitting your car with HIDs and see if you like that first....engineering new light assemblies is a lot of work (see above link).

Each lens assembly cost almost $600 each with the stock bulbs. They are well made but excessively expensive and heavy. I've had to replace one of mine and I wouldn't think it would be an easy thing to convert another car to.

Ok thanks for the comments but Id still like the measurements if someone doesnt mind just taking a ruler to a headlight. Just an approximant size. Id figure it wouldn't be an easy project because not many people have actually done it. HID s are good but expensive. I figure why spend so much on HIDs or flush light kits though if you can use that money to make something unique. I know it might not be an ordinary way to think about it but it was just an idea :/
