Hand de-burr and WPC-treat transmission gears

It sounds like de-burring to reduce the occurence of stress-risers would be the first step like Billy did. Then, a cryo OR WPC treatment for hardening, and finally the REM treatment for friction reduction....

Sounds very time-consuming and expensive! You shouldn't need any oil for lubrication or cooling in your gearbox after all that.
WPC said that they treat cryo and REM-polished parts. I would NOT cryo or REM treat the gears after the WPC process.

Check out this months issue of Turbo Magazine, theirs a multi-page article on the quantitative benefits of WPC vs. Other treatments

WPC Treatment Pricing
Please contact Izumi from WPC Treamtment for pricing.

Some Ballpark prices:

Ring (4.06) gear ~ $100
Pinion (4.06) gear ~ $100
JDM Input Shaft (3 gears on it) ~ $96
Gears ~ $24-31 depending if it has a spline or not.
Needle Bearing ~ $12-14
Synchro ~ $8
Hub sleeve ~ $120 for all 3
Piston ~
Rods ~
Rod/Main Bearing ~

In all honesty it might not be worth spending the hours de-burring the gears or spending money WPC Treating them for a street car, if a few HP is not worth the time and money, or if the car isn't pushed to the limits under race-like conditions on the track.

If you have lost certain transmission gears, Ring&Pinions, rod bearings, etc... in the past due to high HP, drag racing, etc... This treatment is IDEAL for those situations.

***However, I would say it would be a good investment to WPC treat the Synchros at any tranny rebuild to increase the strength and longevity of the Synchro teeth. My Grand-Am team and I noticed improved durability in the Synchros of their Acura TSX and Honda Civic SI race transmissions which have notoriously lost/worn synchros very quickly before the WPC process.

I'm really considering tearing my trans down this winter and doing the whole WPC treatment. I doubt the prices are still the same but I wonder what they are now (I'll call) and what the long term efficacy of the treatment is like so far.

stuntman, can you comment?

I have been thinking of making this my winter project as well. Time to start working on my trans anyway.
