One month ago today, I dropped my car off for fresh paint and today I brought it home. It looks terrific and I'm delighted to have it back! Here are some pics from the last 5 weeks.

I dropped it off on a Monday and then went to visit it and take pictures every Saturday. Here is the first Saturday.

So I just got home from taking it for a cruise out the the beach. Got to see a great sunset and managed to beat the rain coming home.

Later!

I have always enjoyed your post on your NSX ownership. Thanks for logging the progress and sharing! The car looks like it just came out of the factory.

If you do not mind me asking, what was the reason for the repaint?

Yeah that looks really nice man!

Very nice! Looks like a new car with a very happy owner.

I wanted to erase about a hundred little flaws and a couple not so little flaws. Rock chips on the front, ancient remnants of bug splat on the rear views, some fading clear coat on the rear bumper, couple scratches on the roof, acid rain spots in the paint that you could only see when the light was just right, etc.

In reality, I'm probably the only person who ever noticed most of those things, but I still wanted it done. It's a daily driver with 115K miles that's spent many nights outside in the driveway and whose paint wasn't perfect when I bought it 4 1/2 years ago. It looked good when seen from a few feet away, but not on close inspection.

It was nice to discover no signs of prior accidents or damage when Russ took it all apart though. He said the front bumper cover had been repainted previously but otherwise it looked virgin.

Looks like they did a real nice job, if you don't mind me asking what was the total cost. Can PM if you want.
Out the door, just under $8K. That included a new windshield, inner fender liner, and a handful of seals and various rubber bits. The guy who did the work was taken by surprise by the complexity and time required and told me he wouldn't do it again for that price though. He originally estimated 3 weeks and it took closer to 5 weeks.

That's a lot of money to us, but no regrets so far, at least on my part (won't speak for my wife :) ). The hardest part was being without it for a month. Sharing a car and mooching rides home from work sucks. :D

Looks good!

I's be anxious tough. The first (unavoidable) stone chip will hurt very much.

Looks like money well spent. I kind of figured ball park like that. My cars paint is in great shape but was just wondering for the future as I don't see me parting with her anytime soon. So at some point she might need a refresh.

Skip, I bet it was a cheek clenching experience watching your car be dismantled like that, but oh so very rewarding to see the finished product!

Great pics, thank you for sharing.

Not as much as looking out the office window right now watching my new paint get rained on. :(

Thats no different than a free car wash... quick shammy and she'll be like new

Great thread, car looks great. Nothing better then fresh, nice paint imo to freshen up a 10yr old plus vehicle that is outside of older paint, very clean.
