Ground clearance as a daily driver

Hello everyone,

I've been browsing around the web and it says that the ground clearance on the NSX is 3.7 inches. What have your experiences been with steep driveways, speed bumps, etc. I'm planning to pull the trigger and buy one of these but it was just a concern since I do live in LA. Ground clearance seems to be lower than an R8, Huracan, AMG GTR. Can any owners please share their input? Thank you

Hey Justin,

I had the same concerns before my purchase. I have a steepish entrance to my driveway in the Boston and i also have a car lift that i need to be able to roll on to. The dealer actually drove the 30 miles down to my house so i could make sure it would make it in to the garage and then on to the lift without any problems. ( They also had my wife go for a long drive in it to make sure she was a fan of the car before i committed to it...she was :smile:)

Driving around Boston has not been a problem so far - even with the garbage roads we have here....I assume LA roads are much better and should not be a problem.
 
If you have more than 7 degrees of incline, you may have issues

The car is fine for Chicago

If you live in a building with a ramped garage, probably not gonna be a good situation
 
As a FYI, SOS sells bumper guards, and is working on a suspension lift kit as well. So far, I have not had any problems with scraping the front bumper, and that includes getting on and off ferries.

The ground clearance is 13cm = 5 Inches. Had the same problem by ordering the car. Went to motor show to mesure by myself.

Ground clearance not good, I made it half way up my driveway transition then heard scraping and backed up right away. At least it cant be seen from the top. So less than 20 miles into ownership. Will have to get a front lift. The NSX specialist is looking into replacement cost for the carbon one as well as the plastic one

Thx I saw that for $200 @ science of speed but dont want to drill holes in the carbon either. I'm going to see how much a replacement unit costs as I dont mind running the plastic one for now until SOS puts out the lift suspension kit (and assuming I can afford or want to spend that much)

I am having huge issues with scraping. I am scraping left and right.

Before the NSX I had a lowered R8 Spyder and the NSX is scraping much more than the R8 did

Interesting, good post and info to know!

We never scraped our modded R8's however the GT3 has a horrible front overhang and scraped everywhere! The new NSX seems much better than the GT3 and not much scraping but eventually all fronts get some scrapes unless you never drive the car or plan your routes ahead of time on every trip which becomes tiresome.

Plastic is a little over $100. Carbon is over $3k. The painted sides are about $2k each plus paintwork.

Does anyone know if these parts are interchangeable? The nsx specialist doesnt know and of course said no return. $149 from dealer but online is ~$97 for shipping (that includes 2 hatch struts but I cant imagine that adding a significant amount of shipping cost)

Hatch struts? You know this is for the front spoiler right? And yes they are interchangeable.

Sorry I wasn't clear that I added parts I needed for my 1991 nsx and meant that the additional parts shouldn't add that much for difference for the shipping costs. I was just shocked at the $97+ shipping costs for the plastic piece. I had previously added struts in the shopping cart a few weeks ago and that was still on there when I added the front plastic piece onto the cart for the 2017 nsx. I figured that I still needed them because I have a screw on the hatch glass frame that is stripped and the SOS struts would require more effort than I wanted to expend to remove a stripped screw
 
May of those online sellers make up the profit by charging exorbitant prices for shipping. Granted, all NSX parts are insanely overpackaged. So the spoiler will be in a giant box. But $97 is still a bit much to ship that domestically.
 
Hi all,

I've got bit of a dilemma. I'm thinking about buying a 2nd gen NSX but not sure if it will get down my driveway. Does anyone have experience with ground clearance, etc comparing 1st gen to 2nd? My 1st gen NSX gets down the driveway and barely scrapes, but makes it out fine. I've done a bunch of comparison measurement and it seems that the 2nd gen is a bit lower, has a longer overhang and a longer wheelbase, all of which would indicate that it will have a harder time getting out the driveway. There unfortunately aren't any locals dealers so no way to test until I actually have a car. Would hate to buy one and find i can't get out my driveway. I don't mind if it scrapes a bit, but if the clearance is really bad is there risk to damage/pull the bumper? I've posted a few pics. Any thoughts would be helpful! I know I could probably get the SOS lift kit, but that seems like an expensive option. Knew I should've bought a different house :)

I can angle the car a bit exiting the driveway, but it isn't very wide. The approach up the driveway is definitely better vs down; my 1st gen doesn't scrape at all going up. I suppose a very inconvenient option would be to back down the driveway every time, but it is long, narrow and steep so would definitely make leaving my house more difficult.
