Gran Turismo 3 - OMG

as a side note, I'm assuming you know that Akira was redone and rereleased in theatres.

I certainly am aware of that. And I've been torn as to whether or not I should make the drive all the way to Burbank just to see it digitally projected. As you know, I'm in deadline hell...so I'll just have to be satisfied with the ultra-cool DVD that's coming out soon.

Akira, the film, is indeed part of the reason I chose Akira3D as my handle. I still plan to model a 3D version of the Akira motorcycle for my web page at some point...get it, Akira in 3D

That red bike would go great next to my CG model of the NSX. I need to pick up the McFarlane toy as a reference (but I'm waiting for the new two pack bundle with Kaneda).

Of course, the fact my name is Eric Akira Iwasaki also had something to do with it, that my ojiichan is named Akira, and that I have the deepest respect for the late Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa.

Kenji, you're probably right about getting along. When I do make a trip up your way, I'll be sure to try and contact you. During an upcoming summer (but definitely not this one), I plan to drive all the way up the coast to Vancouver, B.C. Not only does most of my dad's side of the family live up there, I have lots of family and friends living in San Francisco and San Jose...so I'm certainly going to be stopping along the way. And yes, I will make the drive in my NSX!

BTW, we DID get GT3 today (my coworker delivered the game as promised). My boss was checking it out when a rolling black out hit (serves him right since he was talking smack about NSXs). Luckily, I got to play it a bit during my lunch hour. Now to bring in a memory card so I can start unlocking goodies

Hopefully it will still be in theatres after E3 so you have some time to go. I've seen it many times, but never on the big screen. It should be a great experience.

I finally got enough money in GT3 to upgrade from the mazda roadster to a Lancer EVO VII yesterday. Now to get a better license.
I don't get why the races are so specific. Certain races can only be entered with certain cars (american, type r, audi, etc.) Do they expect you to buy and modify 10 different cars just to win all the events?

Yeah, its been really hard for me too, especially while trying to get used to the steering wheel. Do you have the steering/stability assist turned on in the options? I had it to simulator for a while and I think that made it a bit more difficult. I've changed it to have assistance a little more... but it doesn't help too much if you have a Corolla GTS Trueno.

I saved enough money for the racing suspension, boy did that make a big difference. I've beaten the Sunday, Clubman, FR, and NA cups now... I still havn't found a way to make big money so I can buy what I really want.

Okay, now I'm REALLY going REALLY nutz. I guess you guys didn't realize that I do NOT have the game yet. Nor does our office have a copy. Supposedly, one of my coworkers will be getting back from Japan tomorrow...and he promised to bring GT3 for the office.

I just got back from Japan yesterday, and walked past GT3 about 10 times trying to decide whether to buy it or not, I am seriously regretting not doing so now. I haven't even gotten around to getting a PS2 yet, but that certainly would have inspired me... bah

Okay, so I've opened up all the tracks (arcade easy mode). My faves (for looks) so far are Smokey Mountain for rally, SS Route 5 wet, Seattle, and that new Tokyo track. Stunningly beautiful stuff. Meanwhile, one of my coworkers is zipping through the licenses. I just needed to open the tracks up for head-to-head competitions...

'Tis a shame that we only have ONE copy of the game...

By the way, for all of you that have been wondering why I have been working so hard lately, check out what we've posted at http://www.naughtydog.com
