Got pulled over tonight on the way to meet

Really got to be extra careful, especially during night time.

I tried to make a last minute run to the meet earlier tonight, drove very slowly 45mph~50mph on the street most of the way. Then got pulled over after I made some noise inside a tunnel 4500rpm~redline in 2nd.

The officer caught up and pulled me over from behind several minutes later. What follows is usual license, insurance, registration deal.

Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over?

Me: No sir, I was just driving slowly

Officer: You were not driving slowly. I saw you accelerate inside the tunnel

Me: yes, sir

Officer: Have you ever been arrested?

Me: no sir

Officer: He then walked around the car, then said, you have no front plate, modified exhaust, possible other engine modifications.

Me: no, sir, other than no front plate, everything is legal on my car, I had been harrassed by cops many time before, so I know better, only legal mods, emission system untouched, no bad exhaust smell.

Officer: mad look, followed by a smirk

Me: sorry, sir, I meant I had illegal modifications on my other car. You guys were just doing your job. I learned my lesson from the other car. I only do legal modifications on this car. I have all the paper work and EO sticker.

Officer: You need to slow down. I know this little car is fast, but you have to be careful, there are drunk drivers out there.

Me: thank you sir, I think I said thank you 3 times. :smile:

Turned around and headed home, never drove slower. Initially I thought the officer tried to give me a hard time, but he turn out to be very cool. First time ever that I got pulled over without earning a ticket. Considering this is also near end of month. Getting away without out a single citation was a miracle.

lucky for you it was dark and he could not see through your engine hatch.

yeah very lucky. Some cops are nice, some are a holes. There was a cop in front of my complex today just pulling people and ticketing them all day today. Was afraid to leave the house.

In theory Jason's car is legal, just as he told the officer... the low-boost CTSC is carb approved, he has a stock airbox (although it has a drop in filter), but nothing one could point at and say is illegal... I would imagine the largest concern would be the headers (not sure if they're carb approved or not), although unless the cop has a floor jack he isn't going to notice them.

Congratulations on avoiding a ticket, I have never driven away from being pulled over without a ticket, although I have only been pulled over once.

Good to hear you didn't get a ticket.

You did the right thing - showed respect, spoke clearly and didn't have an attitude. I've been excused from tickets doing just what you did - except one time - and the reason was b/c I was PO'd, answered only Yes/No and had an attitude.

NSX stands out too much, doesn't blend in with other cars, and there were no other cars around. The officer might have been following and trying to anticipate me making an even bigger mistake and catch a bigger fish, lucky I drove slowly after existing the tunnel.

The speeding ticket was the #1 concern. I really had nothing to hide in the nsx. Car is 100% smog legal, exhaust might be illegal, but the sound level is definitely within legal limit as long as I don't take it up to 8k rpm inside a tunnel/underpass.

no, you are ok, as long as you don't speed or let a cop catch you speeding. :smile:
