I was driving my Porsche on 280 Saturday and around Los Altos, I got pulled over for not wearing my seatbelts. This of course was total bullcrap as I was weariing them. Now I feel like I have to go fight this one just out of principle.

Here's how it went down.... at approx: 11am I was driving 280 to meet up with a friend in Sunnyvale for lunch. Near Los Altos, I'm driving this straightaway in the fast lane and in my rear view mirror I see a CHP cruiser coming up fast behind me. He was still over a mile behind at that tiime. I quickly check my speed and I was doing the same as everyone else. I was already wearing my seatbelt so no worries there. So the cruiser comes up behind me for about a min and then goes to the right side of me and passes me...probably doing 5+ miles faster than the rest of us. So after he pulls ahead by about 3 car lengths, I turn into the same lane as the cruiser and I'm just minding my own business. Next thing I see is the cruiser pulling all the way over to the gravel and waits till all the cars pass and then he pulls up behind me and hits me with the flashing lights. I quickly pull over to the side and waited for him to approach. So he's now at my car and looks at me and says the reason I pulled you over was that "you were not wearing your seatbelt". Boy, that really got me upset as I was wearing it. So I guess the mistake here was that I started to argue with him and told him he made a mistake. He wasnt about to listen and went back to write up the ticket. So about 15-20 mins later 2 other cruisers pull up and 3 officers come out and stand right on the side of my car while the first officer hands me the ticket and then proceeds to tell me that my front license plate is missing. So that's also more bullcrap as I did have my license plate on but it was tilted at aprox 45deg angle so it was under the front bumper. The sight of 4 officers standing next to my car scared the crap out of me and the intimidation factor went off the scale. Without any more dicussion with the first officer about the front license plate I just drove off. Now I'm faced with 2 citations and a court appearance in Redwood City.

I really want to fight this but some of my friends said that the court usually backs the officer when it comes to my word vs. officer.

This officer seemed very young and probably was a rookie and thusly the other officers coming over to support him. His last name is Garcia.

280 is definitely a speed trap and I know better than to speed but this BS about no seatbelt just totally upset me. So am I getting harrassed because he couldnt pin any speeding charges on me?

Wish you would of recorded the traffic stop. That sucks. I always hit record on my cell phone when the police are involved. Just telling them that you're recording when you know it's going to be a BS traffic stop makes them mind their P's and Q's.

Yea I got a unsafe lane change ticket and when I went to court the officer stated he seen a integra make a unsafe lane change.I showed the judge pictures of my NSX with the plate # and still lost.
Ur fee might be less taking it to court but you might not be able to go to traffic school for fighting it instead of just paying.

get that SOS front plate mod where u can pull ur front plate out.

I got pulled over for that and it was tucked away.

I told the CHP (I was a dick and let him finished writing it) that I had one there. He called BS on me.

I told him (at night) to look harder.

he did.

Saw it there and said "ah maaannn. Ur right"

He said he won't gimme a ticket and gave me the "johny-white guy talk that it's illegal to have that mod, etc...) I told him that I understood that as long as the plate is in front of the front axels I am good, regardless of position.

he didn't have a response.

I was good to go.

good thing he did n't see the 5% tint on the sides.

Oh, and one more thing to make ur day:

fix it tickets are now $25 instead of $10.

...... His last name is Garcia.......

If that is the one that I thinking about, then I did get a speeding ticket from him in the NSX about a year ago.

I used www.ticketassassin.com to get outta the ticket.

If he didn't have something against NSX owners, he certainly does now.....

So I got the Court document today and the fine is $333 for No Seat Belt and no Front Plate. Asshole CHP. Wrong on both counts but now I have to go and fight them.

In for the update and to wish you good luck. CHP suck theses days with the economy and all.

I got pulled over last week cited going 67mph on the freeway (Bus-80). It turns out that section of 80 has a 55mph speed limit (although everyone who commutes through there does 70mph). I was pulled over immediately right after the junction split of I-80 & Bus-80 where the speed was 65mph. He asked me if I knew the speed limit was only 55mph then lectured me on why and that unfortunately he still has to write the ticket because "speeding is speeding" regardless of what traffic does. Immediately after we get back on the freeway, he pulls someone else over.

Sucks about those types of tickets. In San Mateo there's a stretch of hwy 92 that is 55 mph. In fact, the whole SM bridge was 55 until the new addition went in.

Whenever you start to argue with an officer, they "can" treat you as hostile and that's probably why he called in the other police cars. Of course it's kinda excessive in your mind but he does not know what you might do.

Cops like to do this to show their authority so I would say you just got bad luck. Not much you can do at this point since the money/time you spend to fight it won't be worth just paying it, sorry.

Driving a fancy car has it's negatives and attracting police is one of them. I found the attitude you give the officer will a lot of times determine the outcome. Being polite really helps and arguing will make you the loser everytime especially if you add sarcasm, etc.

Yep, kissing ass has its benefits. I think my civil rights were violated. Cannot discriminate again race, color, creed, sex, nor type of car....
