My dad needs the pulley on the AC compressor of his Chrysler Sebring either disconnected from the compressor internals, or have a stand alone pulley replaced. Can someone recommend a decent shop in the Delray/Boca area that won't take him for a ride? Mechanics see him coming a mile away, he's clueless about cars. Thanks!

Look for AAA Approved Auto Repair shops, check www.aaa.com for nearest one in the area.

unfortunately that doesnt mean much. the guys that quoted my dad $1000+ to fix the ac compressor were AAA certified and scared the piss out of him saying his brakes would fail if he continued to drive without fixing it. in my experience, AAA certified means about as much as a business being a member of the BBB. close to nothing.

Which AAA approved shop did you dad take his car to? AFAIK no Firestones are AAA approved in south Florida. You should find a real shop that can properly repair your father's vehicle. Otherwise I can see why your father gets ripped off by places like Firestone.

i assume delray, he told me they were AAA approved and that's why he said he trusted them. he could be wrong though.

Rob, I wish I could help but most repair places here are nothing but crooks and that is why I do most of my maintenance myself. I think there is a place called Boca Auto Air on Dixie Highway that I've heard good things about, but I've never used them. I do know of a good general repair place, but it's all the way down neat the Ft. Lauderdale airport. The name is Wales Garage and they've done work for me and my father in the past.

thanks rob, I'll see if I can find out a bit more about Boca auto air with google, my dad said the same thing you just did though, 'they are all crooks looking to rip off the old people'. I told him there are always exceptions, and he should ask some of his friends if they've found someone decent and that in the meantime, I'd ask around.

I must have had a senior moment. I've taken my NSX to a place called The Jap Shop in Boca a long time ago and I'm sure they can work on domestic cars. Their number is (561) 393-3914.
