Good gas, Costco

Question though, does that mean the base gas is so terrible they have to put that much additive in it? Just saying...

I've been using costco gas in my daily drivers for years. no issues it seems.

What's the big deal about ethanol at 10%. I have a friend who is the original owner of a 91 NSX with $305K miles on it and he has run Costco gas in it for years without a single problem. Now, I could understand the problem if you don't drive the car. But, on a car that gets driven at least a weekend or two a month there should be no problems. My car runs best on Costco, Shell and Sunoco gas and most of their stations have ethanol.

All of those are Top Tier Gas retailers, as listed here: http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

Basically, when federal minimums for detergents were established, many gas companies actually [reduced] their cleaners down towards the regulated minimum. Top Tier gas, besides being a fancy marketing ploy, is a group of gas brands that hold themselves accountable to a higher level of in-fuel detergents. Costco has recently joined in as a Top Tier Gas retailer, putting it on par with Chevron, Shell, 76 and so on.

I have actually switched to Costco gas since they've joined Top Tier. No regrets.

Is there gas in California that has no Ethanol? Last I checked Ethanol behaves like an octane boost by burning cooler.

Yes, at the expense of energy. So ethanol gas contains less energy per unit volume than pure gas and so you get less mileage for the same amount of gas. Problem is that ethanol has been placed in gas for so long and at so many places that people have forgotten how much better non-ethanol gas is!

There are only about a handful of gas stations in California with non-ethanol gas. They exist, but very few and far between.

So can i just add E0 to what is remain in the tank? Say i have 1/4 tank left, the fill it up with E0, is that ok?

As an experiment (not scientific because only one sample) I put non-ethanol fuel in my CRX while I was in North Carolina. On the trip down I managed 33mpg. With the one tank of non-ethanol fuel I got 38 mpg. There was a significant price penalty for the non-ethanol fuel so it did not make financial sense to use all the time but the proof is in the pudding. I don't have a station around me that sells it (the closest is about 100 miles away). I wish it was more common.

Yes of course it's fine. Your new tank full would then be more like 2.5% ethanol and each tank thereafter would just dilute it even more until the ethanol is effectively gone.

I have done many non scientific experiments as well and every tank of pure gas gives me at least a 3mpg increase over the ethanol stuff. I have tried this in a Honda Pilot, Civic, Accord, Acura RL, and now my NSX and it holds true for every one of them so I am totally sold on the benefits of non ethanol gas. Too bad government regulations prevent wider availability!!!

Costco gas is just fine. Dont worry so much, have fun driving your car :)
