in general, it's a fairly straightforward means for the "non-technical" to self-publish on the web. the content - diary, professional docs, whatever, are up to the publisher.

as with most things in life, depending on the purpose and goal of establishing a blog, moderation can be a good rule of thumb.

I could never read through an entire blog. Most people have no writing skills.

We interviewed a friend of mine at my last company many months ago.

A little background on him is necessary. He's a big guy at 6'6" and @ 230lbs but very mild mannered. He loves winnie the pooh and has pooh decor all over his cube. Nice guy, who also btw has never had a driver's license and never driven (he's 34).

So a few weeks after we interview him we're waiting for final approval plus he hadn't officially accepted the offer. My boss comes up and says to google our company name (small company). Well the third link down is for "Wolfie's blog page" and if you scrolled down a bit you found entries with our company name. He wrote 3 days worth of stuff, mostly good. The funny part was not that we were referenced and found his entries but what was below that. There were basically tons of semi-hardcore porn pics along with one that was an animated gif of a transvestite. There was a whole section devoted to women washing cars in the nude with comments under them like "wow, she can wash my car anytime". Remember, he has never even driven, let alone owned a car.

It was pretty amusing, he was embarassed and moved his site immediately.

No he didn't take the job because it required a small amount of travel. He likes to travel more than he likes to drive I guess.

Uhmm, is it just me or should you knida wonder about any 34 year old man who LOVES whinnie the pooh and has Pooh all over his cube? WTF is that. I have kids and if anyone spied on my house they would be scared to see me acting like an idiot sining Wiggles songs, but I makes my two year old laugh and to me that is one of the best feelings in the world to me.
