Ok I hate my antenna. It is long, ugly, terrible, aids, everything in the book. It comes on wheather you listen to radio, cd, tape. Has anyone put a shorty antenna on? Where do you buy them? I can't deal with it anymore. It is so long it hits the top of my garage.

Help!

Search for shark.

I hate the shark/stubby antennas. IMO - I'd rather have everything turned off than a permanent stub sticking off the car ruining the natural lines.

There really should be a way to intergrate it into the back window of the car - just like most radios are done on several vehicles. Otherwise, only go up for the radio but not for the CD - as this is how the Toyota MR2 does it, and that car was 91-95, and the NSX still has it going up regardless through the 2005 models, so it's certainly not a lack of technology.

IMO - the short stubby antenna is a BS fix.

when you install the 'shorty' , get a deep socket, run the wires through the 'square hole' and tighten the PITA nut by hand- it will be tight enaugh.

I managed to get my hands on a european edition half mast aerial system.
When you push the button in the console the aerial only goes up half way.
It's an option from J A Pan and some of the european countries.
Go for the SmartTenna. It's the best way to go over here.

Just a disclaimer here the Smartenna will not work with the USA spec ipod adapter. Meaning the antennae stays down no matter what setting you are on. I have both in my car and I might as well have just disconnected my antennae.

Thanks, I was looking at replacing my Grom iPOD unit with the USA-Spec. Now I will not bother. The Grom unit works with the Smartenna perfectly. I would highly recommend the Smartenna with the Grom ipod adapter as they work together well. The USA-Spec is functionally better than the Grom for iPOD search and scan and repeat fuctions, but I will give that up for the Smartenna fuction.

JC Whitney used to carry reasonably-priced, aftermarket, power antennae. Several years ago, I replaced 2 broken ones with their antenna and they seemed to work OK. However, they are cheaply made and you need to keep them lubed for lasting performance. As long as you are replacing the antenna, you can always wire in an on/off switch so as to only put it up when you want.

Its not a crisis..I put a flag at the tip of mine so the neighborhood kids can see me over the hedges.

Just put a switch on the power antenna lead from the head unit. turn it on and the antenna goes up when you need to listen to the radio , off and the antenna is down. I mounted mine on the driver side of the console.

Which color wire is it? Care to elaborate slightly for those of us that would be interested in doing the same?
