gauge questions

I was thinking of adding a few gauges to my 1995 NSX-T
and I have a few questions:

1. How hard is it to use the various 2-gauge A-pillar pods as
sold by gaugepods.com, Dali, SoS, et al. in an NSX-T? I'd read
somewhere (can't find the page again tho) that they required
a little modification for use in a -T model. In any case, when
installing, is it easy to route wires from the pillar into the area
under the hood of the car?

2. How valuable is an oil temperature gauge, given that the
car already has a coolant temperature gauge? Do the two
temperatures track each other in a predictable way, or does
the relationship between the two readings vary under some
conditions? I don't track my car, but I live near one of the
hotter areas on earth (Death Valley) and I like reassurance
that the engine is operating at a safe temperature.

3. If I do add an oil temp. gauge, what's the best place to
install the sender? There's an oil pressure switch mounted
near the oil filter base; can a tee fitting be added? Does a
temp. sender need to "stick its toe" right into circulating oil,
or would being installed off of a tee give an accurate reading?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Well I've done exactly what you're looking to do. The first thing I did was to find a guage set that would match the stock guages as close as possible. The one I did find was from "Defi" guages. Their D series is almost a perfect match in a white on black guage and it lightes up in an amber color like the stock guages. These guages are 2 1/6" in diameter and work off sending units which use a high tech electronic circuit.

The oil temperature guage is one of the guages I've used. It goes right into the sending unit hole above the oil filter. Just screw it in and don't worry about the old sender since it only works when there is no oil pressure. It will not leave a light on when disconnnected. This was recommended by Schad at Comptech and it works great. The sending unit Defi gives you plugs right in. The oil temp. guage does follow the water temp but a little more slowly but if driven on the track or some hard driving in the heat, you will defintiely see a change in temp. much higher than water temp.

I also added another oil pressure guage since I track the car and wanted something that was more accurate and faster in response. I had initial problems with this because of sending unit failures which we finally found out was due to engine vibration. I have come up with a installation kit which solves that problem and also keeps the stock guage running as normal. This acts as a secondary check in case on guage quits working. Believe me it helped one day at the track.

The D-Series guages work great, look great and are an extremely high quality gauge kit. All wiring is as good as a factory setup with connectors which plug into the guage and the sending unit. No crimp on wires and so on.
