I'm having a problem with my cluster lighting. What im experiencing is that the left side of my cluster doesnt have the "shining down effect" that the ride side does. After talking to my local acura dealer they told me of an illumination assembly that shines light down on the cluster. Is there a bulb in the assembly that can be replaced or is it all one unit? Any info would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

The cluster uses 2 bulbs of each 1.2 watts (@12V) to shine down on the instruments, next to that there are 3 bulbs of each 3 watt (@12V) on the back of the cluster, assisted by another 2 bulbs of 1.2 watts each (@12V) to illuminate the odo and trip.

All of these bulbs can be replaced, bulbs are common. I suggest not to get the bulbs from the dealer, but from a local car-shop, they will give you the same thing, just at a different price, unless you let the acura dealer do it for you.
It requires taking the dash out, sounds difficult, but its not too bad.

Don't be fooled by the 1.4W reading per the manual, coz these are read at 14V, thus 1.2 Watts at 12V

But before you start the hassle, put your lights on, and smack the dash on the head, coz there might be a loose connection on the bulb/fitting, i've seen it a few times, and it cures it.

Thanks for the info man, I think that I'm gonna go ahead and tackle the job. I'm glad you informed me about not having to buy the bulbs from the dealer, thats always a nice thing to be able to save a little money. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks Again,
VJ
