Gauge cluster light is out....how do I fix it??

The right side of my gauge cluster seems to not want to light up anymore. I had removed the cluster to install the S.O.S. carbon fiber bezel piece and when I put everything back together and went for a drive at night I noticed that the needles on the right side (speedometer, fuel, and volts) were not lit up. The numbers behind them were, but not the needles themselves. For a while they would light up if you just whacked the top of the dash over where the lights were, but now they seem to be out completely. I removed the cluster again to see if I could replace a burnt out bulb, but they all seemed fine. One curiosity that I have is how the bulbs are powered....there are no plugs!!

Anyway...so how do I go about fixing this so that my needles on that side light up again? Help!! :frown:

I suspect a loose screw somewhere

Tighten the larger screws (gold) on the back of the cluster. This requires removal of the cluster to gain access to the screws...

It is possible that you failed to properly seat the green connector on the bottom right.

I had a similar problem after I removed the cluster, difference being all my lights were out.

In the end, with the cluster in place while lying on my back, I re-seated the cluster's right side connector.

All my lights came back and I've not had a problem since.

I will ignore that shot about me having a screw loose....LOL! :D

As for those other things, I will pull the cluster again and see if that is possible. What do those connectors do?? What is the cluster gain??

Sounds like I need to check this connector thing....thank you!! :)

Hey Mitch,
If you look closely at the bulbs you'll see exposed wires on the plastic base. These make contact with the printed circuit board when you seat the bulbs giving them power.

I'm sure your problem is a poorly seated green connector.

A cluster gain is when you come out the winner in a clusterf*ck.

I have the same problem. :frown:

Installed the SOS dash-rings and now my instrument cluster light AND the two buttons on the left (Headlight pop-up etc), under the cluster do not work.

And when i try to turn the light on i get this beep/tone ringing in the car.

I even removed the button cluster from the instrument cluster frame to better try to re-seat the green connector but no luck.

Any ideas?

Problem solved.

Take the panel off which has the light dimmer switch, Behind that switch is a green plug that connects to another plug with very thin prongs. Unsnap it and reconnect it, Wiggle it a bit and the lights should come on. I discovered this problem when I installed an after market alarm. But in doing so I fixed the problem. Be careful and say a prayer, the pins that come out of that green plug are very fragile and need to be reinserted were carefully.

Good Luck

Tap the top of it once or twice...
Their appears to be two main lights for the gauge cluster. My left one (for RPM) occasionally does not light up. If I tap the top of the cluster as PoohBEAR reccomends, it comes back on most of the time.

Is their a loose wire or bulb that causes this?

(I know it's an old thread, sorry)
