Lately I've been thinking of trading in/selling the 5 series BMW and getting something a bit more reliable and less expensive to maintain...I love the bimmer but it's out of warranty and isn't cheap to fix things, so it's time to get rid of it soon..
My three top choices are..
1. Lexus IS 350
2. Infinity G35 Coupe
3. Acura TL

obviously the is350 will cost alot more considering they are brand new and not alot of 1-2 year old used ones to choose from, but man they are sick!!!
I love the TL and fully confident in the brand of course, but the looks don't compare to the other two(IMHO) but is still very nice looking...I think I'm leaning towards the G35 Coupe because it has all the looks and performance, and you can get a nicely equipped 04 for $25-30K, just not sure how reliable they are...
anybody have any of these cars??? what do you think???
Thanks.

I traded my '05 auto TL for an '06 G35C 6MT and although I'm satisfied with it, it's not as well equipped as the TL. Yes the G35 has the same features as my TL did, it just doesn't do it as well. For example, the TL Bluetooth shows the incoming caller ID on the information display, whereas the G35 doesn't have one. The dual climate control on the TL lets the driver and passenger select their own temps, vents, and fan speeds, wheras the G35 only lets you set different temperatures. The build on the G35 doesn't feel as solid as the TL, and the interior of the TL is laid out much better imho. The trunk of the G35 is not very large, the trunk of an NSX is actually more convienent. I like the looks of both cars a lot, but the G35 wins by a nose in my eyes. The Bose in the G35 is terrible, wheras the Bose in the TL was like a concert hall with a variety of audio settings.

I wouldn't have traded my TL if I had originally purchased it in a manual, but at the time I was married and I wanted to be a nice guy and get a car that my ex-wife could drive. I'll never do that again! In the end, it all comes down to which car grabs your attention more. Either way both cars are a good choice.

-Good luck.

Why not the G35 sedan? You can do the 6 speed if you want, with 298 hp. I had the coupe, and now I have the sedan. If you're comparing it to the IS and TL, it makes more sense.

Get the TL. It's thousands of dollars less than the G35 or IS350 when comparably equipped. And if you want more reliability and less cost to maintain, the TL beats the Infiniti on both counts, and is at least as good as the Lexus.

I've driven TLs quite a bit. VERY nice cars.
I know someone with a G35. She loves it. No problems with it. Only thing is they eat rear tires.

Sorry for taking off topic, but noticed the above in your post. So well planned in advanced. I guess I should think about what kind of mods the future ex-wives would want before I buy and install. :)

Hard to argue against the bargain packaging of the TL, but Damn the IS350 puts up one hell of a fight!

I vote IS350, for pretty much the same reason as rickysals...

The G35 coupe will be the most fun to drive car out of the group in terms of overall performance, braking, handling, and driver feedback.

It's too bad Honda/Acura does not offer any RWD sedan.

thanks for the input guys....I'm still thinking of taking the plunge on the 350 though:redface: , but would save thousands by going with the other two:confused:

btw, the 350 is almost 100 more hp then the 250 for only $5-6K more:eek: well worth it IMO:biggrin:

either way, they should all be a nice replacement for the BMW, which I don't think I will ever buy again...

peace out:cool:

I like the G35C the most. However, the main I would not opt for it is that the next gen is coming out this fall. Do you really want to buy a previous generation model when the new/improved version comes out?

btw, I would stay away from Brembo's on G35C.

btw, I was in the same boat(TL Vs. G35 sedan Vs. ???) and ended up with a Passat 3.6 with sport package. Its roomier than the TL and quicker though not as quick as the IS.

The rumor that Acura will offer an 07 TL Type S with AWD and more HP is very tempting if you have time to see if it's legit.

I'm not questioning the reliability of a Lexus, but does anyone know what the maintenance costs of a current generation Lexus is? Anything like a BMW? Just something to consider if you expect to own it past its warranty expiration.

Wouldn't that compete directly with the 300 hp AWD RL?

Similar rumors are also out there that there will be a 3.7RL with even more HP.

Lexus is doing the same thing for the GS. They are ditching the 245HP GS300 for a 302HP GS350 which is virtually idential HP rating as their LS/GS430 with ~300 HP (but more torque). Perhaps they will just have a small overlap like Lexus as well since they will be releasing the GS/LS 460. Besides, the RL has never been about HP. Still not sure what the RL is about then.

Get the IS350, you won't be dissappointed. I've driven all the above mentioned cars numerous times. The G35 and TL are playing "catch up" to the IS350 at this time.

1. The G35 is played-out.
2. The IS350 will be played-out.
3. The TL is aging gracefully.

Not brand loyalty as much as it being the best out of the choices given.
If it were up to me, the Lexus LS430 would be my sedan of choice. But that's not in the same price range as these.

Don't know much about the other 2, but after owning a G35 Sd since it was first introduce, it take more gas than my NSX and 06 530IA, not a good thing if you are trying to save some money.
