It's critical to try on any helmet in person before buying. Some brands are more comfortable than others (and different people may find that different brands are comfortable). You can't just pick a size and expect it to fit properly (properly = snug but not painful).
I recently bought a new helmet. I tried on helmets from Arai, G-Force, Bell, and Impact. I found that the Bell helmets were the ones that fit me the best.
I have a G Force hybrid helmet, two piece suit and racing mid top shoes. All of their gear is excellent quality and priced right. As stated by Ken each helmet manufacturer sizes their helmets differently so they must be tried on. Of all the brands I tried their helmet provided the best fit for me while many of the others were tighter and rather uncomfortable. I wear glasses and that was a major factor for helmet fit and comfort. For the price GForce gear is a great buy:biggrin:
I like their helmets, belts, and most of their stuff, but their race suits aren't very good IMO. I went with OMP in this area, but several places are giving great deals on Sparco right now.
I was at an event and had a good classroom session with an instructor who went over some safety equipment topics.
What he said was that they all meet the same standard, so safetywise, they all perform similary. The difference in the price comes from the manufacturing and material. Some of them are made overseas where the labor is cheaper. Helmet that are lighter would cost more but it'll put less strain when driving. etc etc. But anyway, at the end, as long as the helmet or suit has the right rating, you are okay. As ken said, fit would be more of my concern(and looks ).
