We just got back from Buttonwillow Raceway where we officially broke the long standing record held by the HKS EVO. At the end of the day we ran a 1:41.9. This was good enough for second place overall and first in our class crushing our previous record by over 3 seconds. Unfortunately, on our last session we had a rod failure that forced us to pull into the pits. Lots of time left on the table:)

Also, good to see our NSX brother Driving Ambition out there in their super clean machine!

Congratulations Ken and the rest of the FXMD team. I heard about the results Thursday night and could not believe how far you guys have come. Thanks again for representing the NSX.

Best Regards,

Danny

I am a big HKS's CT230R fan, that was not easy task to take on.
Congratulation guys, Amazing.

Now you guys have to take a trip to Tsukuba, and challenge their record there!!

Outstanding,
Now,video or it didn't happened!!! He he.

That is sweet only being beat by a Evo which my understanding destroy on the track with the AWD.

wow you guys built an incredible car,I say that not only for your record, but you guys were just over 8 seconds faster than Kips car,and that I would consider fast...wow:cool:

Amazing!
Good luck at Redline Time Attack tomorrow.

Thanks fellas! We had quite a bit of issues with the aero and suspension set-up as we changed so many things and did not have time to test other than the day before. We gathered quite a bit of data during the race and will be applying that towards the next iteration.

There is much more in the car and it was a shame we could not finish out that last lap!

How much boost was used with approx HP to close the gap on that Sierra Sierra? Are you all running dry sump?

Good show!!!

It really was not about boost or hp when we closed the gap. It was all about aero balance and suspension set-up. We just started to figure it out on the second to last session. Looks like too much aero caused many problems like over heating the tires. We are running a hybrid dry sump right now, once you start breaking a certain number at BTW a dry sump is a must. Even our FWD car that smashed the previous record had problems with oil starvation.

Wow - Congratulations!

No kidding on the aero - that's some very significant changes you've made. It looks like a well-thought-out package with the "little tweaks" you've made too. With some more testing, I'm sure it'll be unbeatable!

Maybe buy one of these for your tires, aero, and heat exchanger performance:

Tsukuba would not suit us all that well, we are targeting Fuji. We will be running against the world in May 2011 in Australia. This time we will not miss it! The video will be out in a few months, we had a full production crew with us.

We are still working on balancing out the aero, creating the frontal down was our goal as it is the most difficult to make. Our Aero Engineer is one of the best, works in IRL, ALMS, Super Taiku, JGTC,etc. We use CFD to develop our aero enchancements and data sim software to evaluate the changes we have made to the car.

Look for some amazing parts for your cars soon. The first up is our dual plane diffuser. Creates more down v drag than anything else out there. CFD designed and fiber twill analysis was used to build this piece.

Good job as usual Billy. It was a fun weekend that was full of hard work by the team. As usual as well:)

Here is a list of the fastest TA cars at Buttonwillow. http://hellafunctional.com/

I’ve recently noticed that it is very hard to track down results and times from past Time Attacks, especially the Redline events. Buttonwillow is what many consider the most important venue for time attack in the country, and you would think it’d be easy enough to find a database of lap times from there. Turns out such a thing doesn’t exist, so I’ve set out to create one. Eventually it will be a separate page outside of this blog with all the times for all time attack events since 2007 or so, but until then here’s what I’ve managed to dig up tonight. Since so many cars have run at different events with different drivers, I’ve omitted all but the fastest time by a specific car. If I noted, for example, FXMD’s fastest time for every trip out, they’d be on the list 5-6 times. So here’s the top 20 at Buttonwillow CW13:
1:41.046 - David Empringham – Sierra Sierra EVO – unl awd -SLB 2010
1:41.949 - Billy Johnson – FXMD NSX – unl rwd – SLB 2010
1:43.523 - Nobuteru Taniguchi – HKS EVO – unl awd – SLB 2007
1:44.372 - Tarzan Yamada – Cusco/Tomei STI – unl awd – SLB 2008
1:44.586 - Jeff Westphal – GST Impreza – unl awd – SLB 2010
1:45.552 - Tarzan Yamada – Crawford STI – unl awd – SLB 2009
1:46.736 - Chris Rado – World FWD Scion – unl fwd – RTA 2010
1:46.829 - Paul Gerrard – AMS EVOX – unl awd – SLB 2009
1:46.893 - Tyler McQuarrie – C-West S2000 – unl rwd – SLB 2008
1:47.868 - Paul Brown – JIC Magic Porsche GT2 – unl rwd – SLB 2008
1:47.987 - Tim Kuo – Evasive EVO – unl awd – RTA 2010
1:48.072 - Kip Olsen – Driving Ambition NSX – unl rwd – SLB 2009
1:48.471 - Billy Johnson – M-Works 350Z – unl rwd – SLB 2008
1:48.550 - JC Meynet – AQ Motorsports STI – mod awd – SLB 2010
1:48.597 - Jack Mardikian – Twins Turbo RX7 – unl rwd – SLB 2007
1:48.772 - Paul Gerrard – AMS EVO 8 – unl awd – SLB 2007
1:48.897 - Brian Lock – Cobb GTR – mod awd – RTA 2010
1:49.115 - Ernesto Roco – Mustang – unl rwd – RTA 2009
1:49.805 - Ryan Gates – Gates311 EVOX – mod awd – SLB 2009
1:49.875 - Christian Miller – 034 Audi – mod awd – SLB 2010
Times in bold are the class records. If I missed anyone, let me know. I’m taking times for Time Attack cars only, so no Nasa TT or regular track day times. Sorry nasa guys with Radicals.

Amazing story and I am thrilled to see how much you guys accomplished with a car that wasn't fully prepped! I can't wait until you dial in that Aero and Suspension! Should even give those EVO's a run for their money

Keep up the fantastic work, we all wait with baited breath.
