For me I don't like the super childish comedy's you see all to often over the past 10 years like the Will Farrell clips as I've been out of highschool for more than a couple decades. That said there have been a number of movies that have had me laughing to the point of a near coughing fit with tears of joy streaming down my cheeks. My top 10 votes for the comic genius I've seen.
1. Animal House (huge cultural significance - Love the FOOD FIGHT!!!)
2. Caddyshack (first one) Would have been my first, but AH eeks it out for its importance in defining the crass comedies we know all to well these days.
3. Weekend at Bernies (first one) OMG - Imagine how difficult it would have been to play a dead person that is dragged around everywhere.
4. Porky's (first one) Shower scene is quite possibly the funniest 3 minutes on the big screen you will ever see. A defining moment in low bodget Canadian film making. Oh ya - and don't get me going on the Lassie bit.
5. There's Something About Mary - "Hey, is that hair gel"
6. Stripes
7. Planes, Trains & Automobiles ("Where's your hand - right here." "Where's you other hand?" "Between the pillows"................................."THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!!!!" My personal favorite comedy excerpt from ANY movie.
8. Naked Gun (first one)
9. Dumb & Dumber
10 A Fish Called Wanda ("Don't call me Asshole....") OMG Kevin Kline - sheer magic.
11... Ah yes - in tough company to and oh so close to making the top 10 is Wedding Crashers (Ironically it and Superbad were the only ones even remotely close to comparing to my tastes in humor for the past 10 years.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High, This is Spinal Tap, Young Frankenstien, Life of Brian, The Jerk, Holy Grail, Blazing Saddles, History of the World Part 1, Rushmore, The Blues Brothers, Groundhog Day, Trading Spaces, even The Big Lebowski are also all classics.
My wife killed herself laughing at Knocked Up, but she just had kids 4 years ago and would find the male/female banter funny. It would have been one I would put on a top 20 list if it wasn't so unnecessarily vulgar. As it stands it might as well sit next to Eddie Murphy Raw. lol
