Front license plate - on or off?

Has anyone 'actually' noticed the car running hotter with a license plate attached? I've had one on my car for over a year, and the temp guage is never moves...hot weather, cold weather, a/c on, a/c off, high speed, low speed -- never a difference; it reaches operating temp and stays there.

I have had front plates on all my NSXs. Sure the cars look a tiny bit better without the plate, but the difference to me is not worth breaking the law and risk getting pulled over.

Same here. I had my plate on the NSX pictured above mounted that way since I got the car. I had it mounted similarly on my Legend Coupe for years and never had any problems. The head averaged about 84 degree all year around. I think if you track the car where you are running it full blast for a long time you might run into trouble, but normal driving and sprited highway driving doesn't seem to affect my car at all. This is just my experience.

Don't need the hassle.

I put the front plate on, mostly because I don't want to give the cops an excuse to hassle me. I use the Dali bracket. I don't think there's a problem with blocking the radiator; at least, I haven't noticed any temperature trouble because of it. I think that if I took it onto the track I would take it off -- it would only take about 30 seconds to remove it.

In Minnesota, the land where absolutely NOTHING is allowed, no front plate is a $65 ticket and shows up as a moving violation on your record. Nice. For my NSX and Talon I've paid 6 of those little beauties over the last 10 years, only one from a traffic stop and the rest from meter maids (Oh I hate that!). I'll continue to run without as my protest against a silly law, and I don't like the look.

remind me never to move to Minnesota.... that has got to be the lamest thing. (no plate = moving violation)

I put mine in the right hand side of the front dash with some card board as a backer to prop it up against the window. I've heard of the suggestion to put velcro on the back of the plate and on the outside facing part of the passenger sun visor and flip it down so visible from outside the vehicle. THat seemed like a pretty good idea.

This is a bad idea. If you are in an accident your plate will become a projectile and possibly injure your passenger or even yourself.

I refuse to put one on the front of mine cuz it looks like sh*t. I've never been pulled over. If I do I'll just pay the $50 fine and keep driving without it. I just don't care.

I got pulled over by police last week for no front license plate and BLUE 7000K HID. The officer look at my car and said I have no place for the front license plate, but I need to replace my headlight. He let me go without a ticket. Maybe I am just lucky? I live in San Francisco.

Guys,

If you get pull over by the police just tell them your license plate bracket is broken. It work for my friend.

Here is another solution that I use:

I live in NY where a front plate is required. I put the plate and a pseudo-bracket in the trunk in case I get pulled over. If I ever do, I'll tell the 5-0 that I plan to do it, I just need to go to the dealer cuz it is easy to mes up the bumper and costly to fix. Sgould work, but up to now no cop has even looked at me funny, except when trying to figure out what the hell I was driving!

I put it on so I won't get hassle by the police from now on. Got pulled over twice already in the past.

I am in Wisconsin, which requires a front plate. I can't recall seeing a front plate on an NSX ever (in the flesh, I have seen pictures and they are hideous!), and I see more than you would expect with Acura of Brookfield just down the road.

I don't run a front plate on my car and have not had a problem in 5k plus miles of driving.

If I got pulled over, it is hard to say what I would do. As with any traffic stop, being polite is very important. If I thought the officer would let me go without a fix-it-ticket, I would probably try to convince him/her to do so. If they were hell-bent on giving me a ticket, I would say very little and get a temporary front plate holder to satisfy the ticket.

I also live here and of the past 29 years of driving I have never put a front plate on any of my cars and have only been stopped once with just a warning to get one on...The cop never even asked why dont you have one on the car just to get one which I never did.

I also got stopped by the police at the Carpool exit of an Express Lane... Anyway, I told him I just got the car, and I need to go get a new license... he let me go but threaten that if he sees me without it next time, he will write me a $110.00 ticket... guessed Seattle police makes most money out of this silly law huh?

I actually kind of like the idea that someone mention before.. They don't put license plate on for the cop just so when they have "pms" or "quota needs to fulfill" he will have an easy target instead of trying to give out speeding ticket and other stuff..

Trust me, I had seen/ encounter cops that walk around my car (not nsx) and rev the car for him so he can give me a ticket...

But generally, you got less harrassment with the front license plate.

I haven't had a front license plate on any of my cars for the last several years and I've always lived in states that require a front license plate mounted to the front bumper.

I recieved one fix-it ticket for not having a front plate once. After pulled over for speeding, I made a smart comment to the officer and he proceeded to walk around my car looking for violations. Next time I'll keep my mouth shut.

The officer never asked why I didn't have a front plate mounted on the car. I think many cops know the real reason people drive without a front plate.
