Front Acura Emblem removal

Can anyone please tell me if it is necessary to remove the entire front bumper in order to remove the Acura emblem? I bought an aftermarket Honda emblem from SOS and they told me it WAS necessary because of the two pins holding the Acura emblem in place. The Honda emblem I bought is NOT a medallion type....it is just the letter "H" so I'm wondering if just pulling on the Acura emblem will tear it free and if the holes created by tearing it through would be too big to cover with the "H" emblem??? Has anyone already done this ?

no it peels off
it has 3m automotive tape

use 2 very small screwdrivers on each side get you fingers under it and pull slowly it will pop off half way thru

the holes are close together so the H will cover it.

now the newer style Acura badge will not cover the holes on the old style badge anyway you move it it shows the holes. trust me I have a brand new Acura badge that I cant use.

Thanks for the quick response.....gotta love Prime. I have an '05 NSX. Are they all mounted the same way with the two holes close together ?

When removing emblems that are stuck on with tape you can use dental floss to "saw" through the tape. Then use adhesive remover to clean up what's left. That way you won't have to worry about scratching the paint.

I used the dental floss method with a heat gun. My badge was stubborn but with patience it eventually lifted.

I was having the front professionally resprayed to fix all the rock chips. I decided to upgrade to the newer "A" badge since it looks cleaner. It does cover the holes barely but the center pins need to be removed from the badge.

I used a hair dryer to soften up the double-sided tape, then took two "ah sticks" (tongue depressors or popsicle sticks) that I sanded down the ends on (to a point) and used them to gently pry off the emblem (no scratches from the soft wood sticks). I believe the old emblem ('91) had retainers on the two studs, but I did not use any to install an "H" emblem -- it's been 18 years now, no issues.

All this information is for the older style badges. On an 05 You'll have holes that need to be filled and painted for sure. I'm not sure an H badge is wide enough. Maybe Shawn knows for sure but guys please note this car is an 05. Not a pre-02. They are different. I fully removed mine but had to patch and paint the holes.

Also forget floss, it's too weak. Use fishing line.

heres the 2002-2005 emblem I have which WILL not cover the holes on the pre 02 nsx's

I tried on my 92. you can see in the pic the 3m tape that edges the emblem.

to get it off floss is the best, then use your finger to rub off the tape then wax the paint real good as its never gonna see wax again.

now the honda badge may cover the holes but I have not tried it yet.
which badge did you get post a pic or link
so we can help you LOL

For those of you that are fisherman, you can use braided line. It's stronger and cheeper per foot so it will save you a few cents.

Shawn do you know if the front and rear badges are the same?

same size yeah but different part number. since people remove their emblems from the rear I dont remember seeing any small holes

but they are the same size def. the difference is the front has the pegs to center the emblem nothing more they dont hold it to the bumper only for centering it. the 3m automotive tape hold the thing to the bumper

I was even gonna break off the pegs and eyeball it but if i did you would see the holes on the pre 02+

Before I really understood the NSX well I threw all sorts of parts away. Front and rear emblems, perfectly good factory lip, my perforated leather here and there, etc. Stupid...

Anyway the rear doesn't have pegs, I pulled it off with fishing line before I tossed it but now I am starting to feel emblems sorta "center" things on the car. Now I want them back. LOL

I have honda emblems from all over the world I collected.

some are real bad ass. some honda badges say made in the USA etc. they are really cool. I just ran saked my stash and i can find what I did with them all.

will keep looking you guy have to see some of these things

I found some of my collection

and an old honda one I held the honda one to the 02-05 NSX one and the pegs are exactly the same width and space.

now I know for a fact they are different from the pre 02 holes on the bumper.

another thing the three bottom Acura badges are from the 1995 legend they are made of steel not like the plastic newer badges

has any one ever thought about a gold emblem with the gold brake calipers wonder what it would look like?

maybe a smaller badge would look better than the BIGGGGGG beastly acura badge dunno

anyway I was gonna dip these in real gold one day but never got around to it

The rear badge came off easily...just used a heat gun and it pulled right off. The residue from the tape cleaned up with my thumb and windex. I was told by SOS that the Honda emblem they sold me WOULD cover the holes BUT they were insistent that the bumper had to be removed to pull the Acura emblem. IF the tabs break off I'm sure the holes will be small enough BUT I'm concerned that they won't and the additional girth will make holes that are too big to be covered. I'm going to hit the pause button on this mod for now.

I can reassure you 100% both regular honda emblems and NSX-R honda emblems WILL cover the holes. I've had both on the front of mine.

And as stated, on 02+ the emblems visually look the same but the front has the pegs whereas the rear does not.

thank you EVERYONE. I finally did it and it wasn't any big deal. I took my heat gun and warmed up the area where the badge was, then used a needle nosed pliers.......pulled right off and didn't expand the holes in any way. The new H emblem easily covered the existing holes. Eventually.....after my front end gets beat up a little (still looks new with only 17K miles on the car) I will have the front bumper refinished, holes filled and put a clear bra on it with no emblem at all.

Better info here...at least now I know the holes will be covered.

Now, which Honda emblem did ya'll buy...one for a:

S2000...Prelude...Civic...Accord...or ???

Any differences between each? I went to the stealership...Civic one cost more than the S2000 one? WTH???

I bought the nsxr one from science of speed. On my S2000 i wanted black chrome so I got one from an accord which is slightly smaller then the S2000 one

WD-40 works real good to remove adhesive.....also road tar. It won't hurt the paint.

If you are going on a long drive in the summer when the bugs are thick, lightly spray the front end with WD-40. The bugs just wipe off.

It won't hurt the paint.

I'm not so sure about that. It has chemicals that strip the wax and leave the paint exposed.

I'd be careful doing that too often if I were you. Any detailer will say the same.

I bought the "H" emblem for the front from SOS but it was expensive. This week I went to the Honda dealer parts department (they weren't busy) and asked them to show me "H" badges about the same size as the "A" that also had adhesive tape. He brought one out that had the tape and pins (with retainers----anyone need some retainers?) and I bought it for $18 ($60.95 at SOS). I removed the pins with a dyke cutter, added some string adhesive ( I pulled apart the threads from a tire repair plug ) and it worked PERFECTLY!!! Honda part # 75700-S2K-J00

yeah there are different versions of the H badge with different models Hondas like the honda ridgeline has a cool honda badge.

but I hear ya with prices.
