I had a friendly run with a 930 last nite, we started from a 60 roll (@2nd) pulled away to 120- no contest 2-3 cars.

We had several runs but same results.

He was very nice (along with his Hottie ) We both gave a thumbs up to each other. The 930 looks so sweet from the back with its bulging fenders.

This is not a kill story, I just didnt realize the NSX is superior to my once dream car the legendary 930.

PS. yes we both made sure we were clear from traffic and obstacles.

The NSX is faster than anything short of a 996tt, zo6, 360, esprit.... Everything else, in stock form, especially from a roll would be asking for it.

Porsche's 911 turbo ala 1975/76-89.

Makes me wonder what year it was.

Yeah, right.
Here we go again.;)

Spartan, do you remember if the rear reflector that says PORSCHE was clear or blacked out? Not that it's a real big deal.
Sounds like a 86 or better. Favorite years for me.
Nice roll you had, I am sure. Cool.

I think you missed a few - Viper, Diablo, Murcielago, and a few uberheavy German cars (RS6 and a few of the AMG model M-B) - and there are a few more that are approximately even (M3, M5, non-Z06 Vette, SVT Cobra R, etc). It's not a long list, but it's not as short as yours.

Ken, also add the 91-94, 911Turbo.
But once again, the real roads would narrow down that list pretty quickly. We know what the track would do.
Loving my NSX, and I haven't driven it in MONTHS, having to make due with a station wagon.

Len,

sorry I dont remember what it was, I was too busy admiring the rear fenders of this car, (I did notate the twin exhaust tips) then we drove side by side, never saw his rear after :D

I do know it was stock, from the sound of the engine and the turbo spool so it was definately a 930.

Twin exhaust tips on one side?
Like this?

The Man, you nailed the exact mods that 90% of those owners do. That turns the car into a beast. I had a Andial tuned car, until I went to the movies in it one day....
They are holding their value pretty well.

Then we would have to say 87 +, I wanted an 89 for a long time they have the 5sp trans. Would love to have one as well.
Cars, Cars, Cars. There are so many that would compliment the X.

Dont race these. No contest.

Actually that one has a Normally aspirated 3.8. (375hp @ 2350pds) It rolls out pretty well. 3.3 turbo until 92. For U.S.
The 3.6 was made in 94 only. A 94 3.6s was an absolute monster, Those that have them have claimed HP ratings as high as 500 stock.

The '94's had a bump in displacement here in the U.S to 3.6l, they only had a single turbo though. The 993's came in '96 with a 3.6l and had twin turbo's.

The '94's have about 360 hp and the '96-'97's have about 400 hp.

Either one of these would be a bad choice to try to take from a roll.

Car guy right.
94's had 360/383. Unless it was a turbo S or an S2
96/97 were 400 unless it was an Turbo s
However , The special wishes program brought some pretty wicked options to the table in 94 as well as the Flatnose option my absolute favorite 911 series of all.
The 3.8 RS and RSR were normal aspiration vehicles only available in Germany or to race teams.

Can a 3.0 nsx keep up with a 87 911 turbo?

It should be with it. The 87 has a lot of torque, rolling wouldn't be a big problem, keeping up. From the line I don't think so.
Top end it should gain.

I had an all original 76' original Whale Tale 930 - tripple black with a newer K27 turbo. When that turbo spooled up it was the fastest car I have owned. Neck smaping acceloration that threatened to break the tires loose. No wonder it claimed so many of it's owners.

Biggest problem - from a standstill - was turbo lag and the 4 speed gearing. Very retro shag carpeting but enourmous fun and timeless exotic good looks. I still have the poster from my young teen days of the exact car. Still the only car I have ever made money on (all original with 36,000 miles!).

Here are some pics of my beauty:

Wow, even from those obviously very old photos, you can tell the paint on that car was absolutely pristine.

The 930 Turbo was my dream car through most of my highschool years.

Yes - the pictures where from a video camera that had the option to take (terrible) digital pictures back in 96'.

The paint was pristine because it was cared for through the years AND they were still using lead in car paints. My theory is the finish was much more durrable with the lead based paints.

On a side note - it sucked feeling guilty every time you drove the car and feeling responsible for one of the nicest low-mile original 930's around. All in all I am still much happier in the NSX but if I could have 2 "cool" cars...

;)

I forgot to mention i also installed a B&B header and muffler with twin tip exit looks and sounds awesome, and btw it did out run the Ferrari!

This thread is bringing back some old memories. I'm sure alot of us here (including myself) have owned a Porsche 911 at one time (I kind of think that the owners have the same sort of mentality). Unfortunately, my car ended up catching FIRE on the freeway WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. So it was like 5:00 p.m. on the 91 East, I have no fire extinguisher, and I'm watching the car burn knowing that the fire dept. is stuck in rush hour traffic--that's an experience I'd like to forget.

Anyways, I never got around to getting the turbo version, though it's always been one of my dream cars too. I'm just trying to imagine what my car would have been like with a massive amount of power (my car was the infamous 2.7 liter). While I know the 930 turbo had a different suspension (which actually filled out those wide fenders), I'm picturing it as an--umm--'thrilling' ride. I dunno about your guys feelings, but the 911's handling was always a bit 'quirky' and having a massive dose of power wouldn't necessarily 'improve' the situation. I mean I was fishtailing the 911 all the time, and this is the dinky 150 h.p. version. I'm trying to picture it with 400 h.p.

I do think that the NSX is an easier car to 'live' with. The only mods people make to the X are to improve performance. On the 911, the mods were necessary to keep it from flying apart! Such includes installing a blow off valve in the airbox to prevent it from exploding(!) , carrera tensioners, and let's not forget divilar head studs. (Of course, us 2.7 liter owners also had to worry about overheating and the magic of the magnesium case!). Ahh...memories.
