Freon transfusion?

I'm about to junk a vehicle which has a fully charged and working AC system, and I'd like to put some of that valuable freon (R12) into my NSX, which is at least 50% low on R-12 (frothing sight glass).

I have a standard 3-hose, 2-guage hookup. I was going to connect the center hose to the donor car (low pressure side) and the low-pressure hose to the other car (also low side). I want to be sure that the freon flows from the donor car, not into it.

Should I have the donor system running? How about the other system? Should I roll the dice and connect the high side of the donor car to the low side of the other car? Or should I just forget the whole idea?

Sounds like the climate control in your NSX has a leak. I would recommend finding and fixing the leak and converting it to R-134a at this time.

forget 134a, its old sk00l crap :P. theres better stuff out there now (mark basch uses it) and it doesnt require any conversion and it runs cooler than R12.

Here's the email Mark sent me back in 2000

I offer all my customers- NSX to Civic, the
Freeze 12 option when doing a repair or recharge. I buy it in 30 lb cylinders
for about 150. I sell it for 7.00 a pound, so its more like one fifth the price
PLUS you only use 78 % Freeze 12 as the systems R12 capacity. It uses
less because its compressability is so much greater, that it expands into a slightly larger space. (not sure I explained THAT correctly!) I've used it in about 200 customer cars this summer, plus my NSX, and the fully custom built a/c in Dali's Candy Cane 3.2 conversion racer I've been building this summer as well. Not a single prolem and the vent temps are 3 or 4 degrees cooler.

Stay Kool,
Mark
