Ford GT

I sat in one at a Ford dealership. I really don't like the interior. The way the door closes makes me feel like I'm getting scalped. The forward and rear visibility is also horrible compared to the NSX. For a midengine car, the hood is pretty long and in the way through a relatively small windshield. I've never driven one, but I'm sure it's a beast. I just really dislike the interior and driving position.

I just rode in one last week with the Cheif Designer of the car....perks of the job. Actually it was his own personal one. It has signatures on it from Edsel Ford, Carrol Shelby and others.
The car....its actually a big car, a lot harder to live with than the nsx, although he drives his quite a bit, already has 24K miles on it I believe.
Alot of power though...seats are really firm.

That's a lot of switches. Which one is the nawssssssssss button?

JMO:

I think it's a very cool car and very well designed as far as performance. It's capable of putting up some very respectable track times like 7:42 on the Nurburgring and is very powerful and from what I read very well-balanced. But I'm not sure if it is powerful enough.

Much research was done and the NSX was studied closely for it's body and aluminum structure. I like the look although I don't love it. It's very retro and I appreciate the GT40 throwback. It's definitely a race car.

Personally, I think the ZO7/Blue Devil will be the better car at a much better price in terms of what you get. I think GM is on the right track and the ZO7 will outperform the GT and be more reliable. I believe the ZO7/Blue Devil could pull under 7:42 on the Nordschleif.

Ford was smart to make it a limited run. I'm hearing some bad things about reliability and recalls--it is still a Ford. I don't think it would fare well in the regular production market over time but limited means instant collector status and it will hold it's value virtually forever. But not all are sold yet and demand has really dried up. It might take for all this year and part of next to sell off the rest. It's value is has yet to be determined.

With over 4,000 produced it will never be that hard to find one even in 20 years. I'm not 100% sure it's a car I would have in my collection if I had any kind of limited space. But it is special.

I remember Clarksons review on Top Gear. "120 mph, 130 mph, 140 mph, shifting to 4th gear!" My God, that must be insane!

Since then of course, he sent his back to For after having a whole raft of problems...

A friend has one and I have driven it. It is one of the best handling, sounding and most powerful cars I have driven and I have tried many. I can't afford half the car so ownership is not and option but I can tell you I liked it a whole lot. If I could own it the NSX would not be missed., nor the TT I traded for the NSX. It is a refined racing car.

Car definitely looks great in person!! I think it would be a fun car to own..doesn't Hugh want one???

Thanks Steve...awesome write-up...would love to take aFord GT for a spin...as for looks - my customized NSX gets way tooooo much attention - I love to drive her -but leaving her at home is calming for the spirit -at times!!lol...

War all NSXs and the people that drive them!
Dam:cool:

The timing of this post is uncanny. I saw a black GT yesterday in Austin during my commute. I have been in awe of the car since I first read about it.

I would take one in a second over a F430. I like the American roots, the beauty, and the blend of old and new. I also love supercharged engines.

Never been in one but hope some day, I get the chance.

I raced one in my NSX and I have to say that the car stock is a beast. I was only able to pull on him a little. I love the looks and sound of the car, it is probably the only American made car that I would consider buying.

More like, which one is the speed-dial for the towing company!!??!!

Just kiddin', had to throw in a Ford joke. I think that the GTO is a fantastic vehicle. If I had my pick of an American supercar, I'd be in one of those.

It is a sick car with sick power, and with the new option of changing the pully for under $5000, that is a car with some serious power!
