Fix Your Engine Cover Hydraulic Arm for free in 5 minutes

As most NSX owners know the engine bay hydraulic arm has a nasty habit of dying over time. To prove my point, my NSX doesnt even have a hydraulic arm! So i've devised a do-it-yourself-fix... here you go:


1) Get a match
2) Cut off the head, and splice the base.
3) Splice the side of the match about 3/4 of its length. This will keep up the engine bay mesh as well as the glass cover - all in one stick.

4) Once spliced, you can paint the stick black with a marker pen. Or for additional bling paint it silver or red. :wink:

5) Put the matchstick in place and you're done!

By now you will have realized this is only good for 1/64th scale NSX's, however a larger matchstick will do the same job for your 1:1 scale model.

I finished dusting/polishing my model nsx, and decided she needed to change her pose slightly. Hence the need for this modification. I'm thinking i might redo one in red though.... :tongue:



...and dont say nobody else here hasn't dusted/polished their NSX models! i know i'm not alone!

i just use those computer "air dust blower" cans.... works great to get dust out of interior, outside, etc.... but i DO KNOW someone however... who even waxes/meguiars his autoart cars.... haha...

Hey, while on this subject, for those of you considering new hydraulic arms …
I bought new REAL Honda hydraulic arms (for the trunk) for BIG money form the Honda dealer and they were not any better than the old ones!!! Complete waste of time and money.

Then I got the Canadian extra strong ones, they work great. So use a match stick, umbrella or anything, NOT Honda ones.


BTW, do Lambos have this problem, and they forget to cut the match head off? We could be onto something…
