Feul Pump repair before my delivery

Hello all,

One day before I am supposed to get my 1991 NSX on the auto transport and delivered to me, I get a call from the seller. He tells me the car does not start and needed to get a feul boost or feul pump? He made sure it wasn't the battery based on what was told him at the Acura dealer(where it was towed to). It was something to do with the feul not getting to the engine.

In any case, all I want to know is...Is this something I should be totally concerned about? Or is it a minor mechanical repair and it should not cause a domino effect to other components in the car? It is a 91 5 spd. 117K miles. Recent work...clutch, rear seals, valves adjustment. I know that I will need to replace the timing belt and h20 pump when I get it.

Any past experiences and how much this procedure would cost would be appreciated. I am not paying for it, but just want a ballpark figure...

Thanks in advance,
Khue

The fuel pump is in the gas tank so the tank has to be drained and removed. There’s nothing really technical about doing it, just a few hoses that are tough to get to. I imagine around 3-4 hours? Seems like a mechanic who has done it before could do it in a couple of hours.

I've replaced my fuel pump in my own cars. nothing to it really simple. make sure that u disconnect the battery if ur doing it urself and check for leaks after ur done. if u don't feel confident enough take it to a mechanic. congrats on ur purchase. I should be getting mine sooon

It might just be the fuel pump relay and it's not that expensive. The problem could also be a faulty aftermarket alarm system with a faulty fuel cut-off switch.

Since we're on the fuel pump topic, don't forget to change the fuel filter. You'll be surprise how dirty it is.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. I am not doing the work myself, I am making sure that it is taken care of before I get it. In any case, I was thinking it might have been a major setback, so thanks for reassuring me that it is not a big mechanical failure or deal breaker.

Thanks,
