I've been thinking. I like Ferrari since I was a boy. I was just wondering if I own a 348 or a 355 what should I look out for in terms of maintenance and the amount of money normally spent.
 
I too have been considering a 355. They have really come down in price and after talking to Ferrari of Washington, the maintenance will not be that bad. I can do the oil changes myself and most other work. I will look for one that has already had the 30k mile service as that is the expensive one. Maybe we can buy 2 and get them cheaper:D . I have been doing a lot of reading on ferrarichat and the more you drive them the better they are. Mine will not be a garage queen, probably 10k per year. Who cares about resale. I want to drive mine not look at it.

Rent one for a day before you decide anything. I rented a 348 Spider last weekend and it was a total piece of crap. Yes it had been beaten on by other people, but the overall quality was very poor. If you are serious about getting a Ferrari, I think the 360 MOdena is the way to go, or even a 550.

Holy $hit... $600 Through Out Bearing and $3500 flywheel!? I started reading the service receipts and thought ' wow... $650 clutch is pretty good' until I kept reading down the list.

:D Aint that the truth... I just spent $1800 on the REAR pads/rotors for my car and I put them in myself. :mad: Further, there is an outstanding recall on my car and the work can only be done at one dealer in the US (Atlanta = 800 miles from me in NY) and there is a 2 year wait list.:mad:

I am on my third Ferrari and I think aside from a smokin deal on a 360 Stradale, I wouldnt buy another. Yeah its cool to drive, and look at, but the buy price and cost of maint. isnt worth it. If you really like to drive the car for any real miles (read 10k per yr), an F may not be the one you want. The build quality is shoddy and they are a bear to keep up.
I really like the newer Lambos since VW has something to do with their quality rise, and that will be in my future when they have a price drop of about 100k...hehehe but honestly, you cant beat the NSX for the money and quality/performance.

No flames please, but the 355 IMO is not what I would consider that much of a step up from a NSX if any at all. Unique character and beauty, but you spend some time reasearching those things and you better have a thick wallet. Wait a couple of years and look at a 360.

I cant speak from personel exp but my friend bought one from FOW. He drove a 348 and a 328 and purchased the 328. It's white with tan leather. Clean car, fun factor is 10 and it has classic looks. He said the 348 was cool but he didnt like blue. On top of that NOTHING beats the sound of a whaling 355 in full blast mode!!

Maintenance is high but you are paying for the right to drive the car that has the prancing horse. I know many owners that love their cars.
