These are great In-flight photos of the FA-22 as the first aircraft
delivery was being made to Langley AFB in Va. Langley is to be first
operational AFB for the FA-22. It is a very beautiful AFB, located in a
picturesque location, as you can see in these photos, near Norfolk and
Hampton, Va.

The aircraft flying along with the FA-22 in the last of these photos is
the F-15, which will be replaced by the FA-22 which is several times
better.

In actual in-flight (simulated) combat operations against the F-15,
two FA-22s were able to operate without detection while they went
head to head against (8) F-15s. The FA-22s scored missile hits (kills)
against all the F-15 aircraft and the FA-22s were never detected by
either the F-15s or ground based radar.. Maj. Gen. Rick Lewis said:
'The Raptor operated against all adversaries with virtual impunity;
ground based systems couldn't engage and no adversary aircraft
survived'!

FA-22 -- America 's most advanced fighter aircraft for the 21st Century!
They're a titanium and carbon fiber Dagger. They're so advanced that if
their on-board locator is switched off, even our own satellites can lose track
of them. They're the first military aircraft ever built that is equipped
with a 'black-out button'. What that means is this:
The best conditioned fighter pilots are capable of maintaining consciousness
up to in the vicinity of 15+ G. The Raptor is capable of making 22+ G
turns.. If someday an adversary builds a missile that is capable of catching
up to one of these airplanes and a Raptor pilot sees that a strike is
imminent, he hits the 'b.o.b.' and the airplane makes a virtual U-turn,
leaving the missile to pass right on by.

They know that in the process he will temporarily lose consciousness, so the
Raptor then automatically comes back to straight and level flight until he
wakes back up.

The first picture- where is cockpit and the pilot? It looks like the one the G.I. Joe (the new movie) where one of the airplanes that has no cockpit.

It looks awsome, though

Probably more strategic, at least for the moment. I see the F-35 JSF being deployed more as it slated to replace F-18's, AV-8B's, and maybe even F-16's in the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, as well as air forces in other countries. Also, I don't think the F-22 will be sold to other countries anytime soon. The Lightning II (JSF/F-35) is probably around 3/4ths capable compared to the Raptor (F/A-22), and way, way cheaper too.

This is a 5th gen fighter, so the cockpit is on the bottom, so you have a better view of what's below you.

These are even MORE badass!

Even though the Air Force chose the YF-22 (now the F-22), it's amazing that come August 27, 2010, it will be 20 years since the YF-23 first flew. I was at Disneyland's California theme park and one gift shop had models of the YF-23!

I think you are right about the 22, it has no foe to fight. The Lockheed / Northrup plan for the F-35 is to produce about as many planes as there are people, and sell them everywhere. By the way, I think the first "Production" F-35 gets delivered to the Air Force this year or next.

The YF-23 design was more stealthy and faster, but the YF-22 was more agile.

brings back old memories:

I know the first Marine Corps F-35B arrived in Patuxent River, Maryland back in November for testing and evaluation.

man you better not be on the other side of the barrel. I watched a documentary on on netflix about the JSF program (don't remmeber the name but it was boeing vs lockheed) at that they are gona replace the f22 because they are waaay expensive. They did say though that they are the badest ass plane ever which was funny.

Tell us! what can these babies do that is better than the older ones? Laser vs. missiles?

They can do everything better than the older ones. I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, the F-22 and F-35 can go hypersonic without using afterburners.

I believe it's called "Super cruise" and only the F-22 has it. Although certain variants of the F-35 have short take off and vertical lift. Supposedly the F-35 is 4x better than any Russian manufacutured fighter and the F-22 several times greater than the F-35.

If you've got the dough, a private pilot can actually purchase a ex-Soviet Flanker for 5 million. I'd rather buy a F-86 though. :)

I am more of a sukhoi fan than the raptor. I still see the Su 27 as being a more maneuverable fighter plane than the FA22. 360 degree thrust vectoring vs just 2d thrust vectoring of the Raptor. Of course the Raptor can kill without detection but a lot of russian people on youtube claims that the su35-47 can spot a FA22. who knows...
