f355 or 997 turbo

997 turbo is faster, much more comfortable, and more reliable. The 355 is very similar to the NSX in many ways. You already own an NSX, I'd get the 997T.

Totally different cars.

Id get the F355 unless maintenance cost is a factor.

997s are great cars but I could trip over them anytime I leave my driveway.

how about something that will increase in value? there are many classics out there at good price these days.

The Porsche is the most versitile of the 2 you mentioned without a doubt even though you can trip over them as one says although I live in Atlanta and I'm not tripping over 997 Turbos anywhere and I also live in Buckhead. Don't believe that stuff. Secondly unless you just are a mashochist then the Porsche will not leave you wondering why you bought the car - as in the repair bills that follow and plague Ferarri ownership - from what I've been told - that's all I needed to hear. So if you want a car you can drive and have fun with and not worry about whether it'll go out of tune between romps then I'd say it's a no brainer. But then some folks just gotta experience the "F" car excitement. Anyone that has owned them both I believe would agree with me. I've owned 911s - have you thought of the GT3 - now that's a great car too!

My two cents worth - now if money is absolutely no object and that's rarely the case go for the Carrera GT!!!!! Then you can really learn how to bend over at the shop for those 5k tune ups!:biggrin:

GT3 is really only a better car at the track or if you are really hardcore. The turbo is a much better everyday car and cruiser, much more comfortable and actually faster except on a tight twisty track. F355 is going to be a nightmare in maintenance, and it really doesn't do a lot the NSX doesn't do except sound, and the Ferrari Cache. Its maintenance is a lot worse than a 360, which I would consider instead of a 355.

I'd personally get a 355. Just a classic piece of beauty. You have the reliable NSX to drive around whenever you want, and then you'd have a Ferrari. That's just cool. Like purchasing a piece of fine art.

Nothing wrong with the Porsche either, but that would be more of a drivers car.

Two completely different cars - what are you looking for? Comfort? Thrill? Ultimate speed bragging rights? Panache? Reliability?

I love Porsche, but for me there's nothing like a Ferrari. And on that topic unless you have a very particular reason for the 355, go 360. Far better car in just about every aspect (sans sound and look, which are personal preference).

As others have pointed out, the 997 GT3 is great too. More visceral, plenty comfortable and *plenty* fast.

Just depends on what you want - if it were me I'd buy something a little different (as the NSX has the sports car thing covered), perhaps an Aston DB9 Volante

Hey BFrank....been a while since I've seen you post. Good to see you chiming in.

I put in my silly two cents on this for the Porsche .....and after a discussion off thread with a guy here that has had Lambos and Ferarris and has only the NSX now and says his Italian thing is over and wasn't what it's "cracked up" to be was an interesting exchange of thinking.

With that said we'd all like to have Jay Leno's garrage or at least parts of it. There are plenty of cars to go around for everyone. If I had the coin I'd have a bunch of em and like Jay I'd drive them all!

So to the guy that started this thread - buy em both!

This isn't a bad strategy-it's one of the main reasons I originally looked at the NSX (limited depreciation).

It all comes down to what YOU want.

Its hard to beat the sound of the 355, it looks great, and is a Ferrari. But you already have a mid-engine car with similar performance. Keep in mind the operation cost of the 355 and the price and labor of replacing the timing belt which is very expensive and if it breaks, the price of a new motor is ridiculous.

The 997 Turbo is a much faster car than both your NSX and a 355. It's very comfortable and can be a DD and is far more reliable. Its not a 997t but 996 turbos are a BLAST:

I've had the luck of having a guy hand me the keys to his 355 'vert with F1 shifters.

He let me hammering it alone while he was chilling at my place with my female friends.

The guy just made $400 mil from an IPO and the 355 was already showing signs of being a daily beater.

let's just say that the NSX is a better car in just about every area that u can imagine.

Not too many people even looked at the 355. Of course many people around here have $$$ and could care less.

Dude ..... if money were no object, we wouldn't be having this discussion about a so-so 355 and an O.K. 997, now would we?
Next Case.

ditto

A 997TT goes for $90K+. The 355 goes for less. A 360 goes for $90K+.

If I were comparing a 997TT to a Ferrari I would at the least look at a 360. It is more reliable though not remotely as reliable as a Porsche.

A GT3 - well thats a whole different story.
