If I remember correctly, BMW used 50mm throttle plates in the ITBs of their S85 engine (V10 M5 and M6), which produces peak power at 7750 rpm and whose 500cc cylinder volume is almost identical to that of a 3.0 liter NSX. In the ITBs of the 999R, which has a 499cc cylinder volume, Ducati used 54mm throttle plates, but then that engine produced peak power at 9750 rpm.
myhui, I look forward to reading about what geometries you end up using for the ITBs of your 3.2 liter NSX. Since your piston displacement is larger than that of a V10 M5, do you plan on using throttle plates larger than 50mm?
Edit: regarding the shape of the throttle bodies, when Ducati replaced the 999 with the 1098, they went from round to elliptical throttle bodies:
“After optimising the Evoluzione cylinder heads, engineers then focussed upon releasing the potential of the new design by feeding them with MotoGP-derived elliptical throttle bodies. With a 30% increase in air flow over conventional throttle bodies, the new elliptical shape contributes an incredible 5hp increase to the record-breaking motor.”
So Ferrari aren’t the only ones to have switched over to oval throttle plates in their ITBs. Since the intake openings in NSX cylinder heads are oval, maybe oval throttle bodies would be more efficient than round throttle bodies in an NSX engine as well.
