I am sorry to read about your accident.
Have you any idea on what the cause was?? I'm very curious since this is the first time I read about a NSX blowing it's engine with oil begin OK and no mods having been done.

well it had 103,000 miles (160,000Km) on it and one of the big ends just went leading to a con-rod going through the side of the block.

Thanks MvM - I will watch that one with interest, although 105K miles is perhaps a bit more than I want to go for.

I have been offered a 47K miler in the UK for £2500, if I can't find a better offer than that in the next wwek or so I will probably take it.

UUUps...an NSX engine blowed up ??
I have heard about that 2 times over the last ten years.

The only statement for that (if it wasnt a material fault )is:
Could it be that you drived with too less oil in the engine ?
The connecting rod bearings will be damaged soon if this happened.
If you open the engine you can take measurement and surely
you can see the tracks for that on other bearings too.
Its an creeping damage and if this happened you can be sure that after some thousand miles latest, the engine shows his inwards.
(Mostly with full throttle)
Could that be ?
Hope that you find a good used one.
But it will be difficult.

If I would need to buy an NSX engine, I would remove the oil pan and remove one of the lower connecting rods for an detailed measurement. If there are scratches inside you can see or feel, let it be.

How are things going with the new engine. Did you find a good one yet.
I have a question about your blown engine. What are you going to do with it.
I would be interested in some of your pistons + connection rods. They don't have to be in working order but I would like to have one or two for display purposes. I was even thinking about making a small (coffee)table using two pistons as the legs.
Just an idea though...

I have gone for the 47K miler at a cost of £2625 delivered. this is on an exchange basis and the supplier will be collecting the damaged engine once I have completed the swap so no spare bits i'm afraid

should be back on the road by May 10th
