Engine painted...what more?

I got the engine all painted up, silver, red, and some of the stock black parts. I painted the valve cover pieces, the two pieces that cover the FI's and the intake plate. I also painted the engine brace and the Belt cover that mounts to the alternatior, the oil cap and the coolant bottle cap. Does anyone know of anything else? it'll probably be easier to tell when I have a picture, so sorry if you need that :)

Also, any other things? I'm going to paint my brake calipers red tomorrow (need to be fixed up badly).

They're really really rusty so I assume Im going to have to rub them up a bit with coarse sandpaper before the painting. Any suggestions when it comes to that folks?

Thanks!

Nice work.
I was already think about the valve cover plates because doing just the engine cover is a little 'lonely'. How did you clean the valve cover plates? I used plain soap on the engine cover and it worked fine.
Was thinking about painting the H-logo and the other letters bright white.

To be sure, I am using caliper-paint in a spray-can for my painting because it can stand the heat very well.
Have to do my calipers again also but will do them when I have to take them off anyway to fit my Aerorotors.

Go to any high end auto parts store and buy 'Wynol". It's a polish that's amazing. I've used it on almost evey piece of metal in the engine bay that was tarnished and they now look better than new.

I know the store in Boca at the University Commons, The Drivers Seat, carries Wynol. It's a bit pricey, about $14 for a toothpaste sized tube, but it's worth every penny.

I used a Dremel tool with soft polishing wheel and jeweler's rouge
to polish my alternator. Works well on smooth metal (not in rough cast pieces).

Dress it up with the colored vaccum hose kit from Dali

Also powder coating the calipers is a much better job that just spray painting

<sigh> Knew it wouldn't take long for Armando to post a pic of his engine bay ;)

As I was looking through all the other posts about this, I notice theres a pic of your beautiful bay in every thread! lol.

Even though I see your car very often and gawk over the engine every time... :)

I will definetly be doing the hose kit shortly, but I want that to be the last thing I do in the engine bay as far as dressing it up. I'm going to paint my coolant tank I think next.

Polishing the alternator: how hard is that to get a GOOD 'mirror' like finish? Any examples of previous works done?

Hey look at all the south Florida people in one thread! :D

Yes the dremel with polishing wheel works really well at cleaning/polishing anything. I'm going to be polishing my alternator this weekend in fact!

Ask the guys at S2K I think his name is Jay, he is in Davie and took about 2 days to do it, although he might have NSX cores by now. I think it was about 400. including new seals .

Red Calipers

Just a question about the red calipers. Did you have to strip out the internals before having them powder coated, or can you just send them out and mask off the seals, etc. Thank you, they look great!

I had them rebuilt since they need to be broken down anyway,

Princxixor,

Actually, very simple. I used red and silver spray-on caliper paint in both cases. The silver was really easy. Just two layers in about twenty minutes and then half an hour to dry. The red is a few layers more because of the rougher texture of the magnesium cover and takes longer to dry as well.
The lettering was done with white modelling-paint and a fine brush (not really nicely done, used to be much better with that when I was younger). I will have to do that again :)

Miami,
I love the looks of those calipers. Did you do them yourself or have them done?

Thanks , I had them done by a local guy, Im relaly happy with the look, its been about 8 months and still look brand new.

Hey MvM, you can't really see it in my picture but I got a very similar glossy finish, but I didn't do it hte same way...mine was a bit tougher.

When spraying the red parts, the first 3-4 coats were just light coats, finally covering all the black parts by the 4th coat. Then after that, I put on a couple of THICK THICK coats...You can see the orange peel and the texture of the parts material disappearing, BUT be careful not to put down TOO much paint because then it will form orange peel craters! and the most important thing is BE PATIENT when it comes to drying and re-installing because if its even damp, a slight brush against anything will ruin the paint.
