Engine hesitation

Sent my NSX to a local workshop. Changed the Spark plugs (NGK Platinum), clean the throttle body and the RPM sensor and added fuel injector cleaner (Nulon) to the fuel tank. I was hoping it to solve the rough acceleration of the engine. The idling is okay now but when I accelerate the car from 20mph to about 40mph the car feels like it accelerating rough but not to the point that it is very bad. It's just not as smooth as before. Could it be that the fuel I use (RON97) is contaminated or could there be other reason that I should be aware of? FYI my NSX is automatic.

PS: Recently I also change the motor oil and the transmission oil (Honda oil).

My friend told me it might be the high tension cord (coil pack). I will check the resistance of the coil pack tomorrow.:(

All my coils are showing 1.5ohm on the meter at 27degrees Celcius. Do I need to replace all. Is it serious?

my coils read 1.2ohms - 1.3ohms when it was about 60 degrees F outside. if your coils all read the same reading they should be ok.

hey try tapeing the coil packs with electrical tape and then test drive it. if it fixed then pull the tape off one at a time untill the problem comes back and that whould be the bad one
good luck

I installed Iridiums, Once.

The center of the coil electrode is not contacting the tops of the Iridium plugs properly.
Look at the top of an Iridium, there's a indentation in it from the threads of the screw on nipple.
Look at the top of an original plug, Its flat on top and can't screw or unscrew anything, its a fixed tip.

Also, look at the diameter of the coil pack tip. Its thin enough to fit INSIDE of this hole in the Iridium.
So you have all of these new plugs not contacting any of the coil packs very well.

I'll bet your FM radio has a lot of static noise in it now, too.

Kinan,

I installed the original NGK Platinum for the NSX which I bought from the Honda agent here. I'm just trying to find out what is making the engine to heistate when accelerating from 1000 to 2000 RPM. Since the coil packs are fine I will just have to wait if the fuel injector cleaner would solve the problem. If it did then I would know its the injector. If not then I will buy new coil packs all six of them. At the moment I don't have proper budget for the coil packs as I am waiting for the Sorcery bodykits to arrive plus some other bits. One thing at a time.:D

The problem may be moisture accumulation around the contacts of the coil packs. Have you inspected these? I have a couple extra that you can borrow to diagnose your car, just pay shipping. E-mail me if you are in need.

I've checked already. There is some rust at the contact. Both me and the mechanic use sand paper to remove the rust. No moisture detected. Chris, how long is it before I replace the coil packs. Is there any need to replace them after many years?

Kinan,

Before, I use Denso Iridium and they give some interference to the radio. I don't know if the Denso's are giving bad effect to the coil packs.

Sorry, the Iridium name threw me.
My experience was with DENSO Iridium plugs.
I've never heard of NGK Irdium plugs and don't know if they are standard on the NSX. I strongly suspect not but ICBW.

First thing I would do is re-install the old plugs to see if the problem goes away.
If you don't have your old plugs, buying new of the last brand you had, (if different from what you are installing) is surly cheaper than buying coil packs you hopefully may not even need.

I checked with the agent again and they said it NGK Platinum the original. They mistaken it for Iridium.

Just found out that my fuel filter was for the Accord. I replaced it with the NSX one. Hopefully these few days there will be some improvement.

The NSX is running great today. Will keep you posted if there is still a problem.:D

your saying the incorrect fuel filter restricted the gas flow needed for the motor?

I'm no mechanic but I guess that's the reason. BTW the NSX is running okay today. No engine hesitation. Still have to check it tomorrow again.

It came back again yesterday. After talking to the mechanics and asking opinion from few of my friends who are knowledgable about modifying their car's performance, I come to a conclusion that my coil packs will have to be replaced.:(

What plugs are you now running?

OEM NGK plugs for the NSX I bought from the agent. I plan to replace the coil packs early next year.
