Not at all. I have heard some people with a LOT of experiance tell me they choose to do it that way but watched one of the best Acura techs do it in about 4 hours in my garage without any such extra work. I think if you talk to the top Acura techs they will tell you to leave everything in and do it on the ground (with a clean service mat - of course).

I guess you just hover over top the engine and work on it then?
I was looking at the bottom of the engine today and man.....I can imagine getting anything done under there without removing something.....
How bout transmission....would you be able to pull it out to replace clutch on it...without taking the motor down?

With all due respect are you sure you want to tackle a job like this? What if you get inside the engine and find something you're not expecting? Perhaps you can practice on a Civic or some other/easier/cheaper car before your NSX. That helped my understanding and confidence a great deal.
Just fyi, the local dealer here dropped the engine when they swapped out my timing belt and water pump. They claim it's easier for them to do it that way. Oh well. They put back everything together ok(at least it seems that way!) so I have no objection to that.
