Engine Bay Dimensions?

Hey guys, in the future (might be more than a couple of years, haha), once I'm out of school I plan to build MY ultimate track car. I've always loved the NSX and the mid-ship layout along with the engineering that went into the car makes it the perfect platform for me.

I plan to put a four rotor engine in it that I will build myself (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKmR0EVYoSo&feature=related) and I was wondering what some dimensions of the NSX's bay are (and if they are different in both models at all).

I've searched and couldn't find anything decisive.

Thanks much!

I love rotaries and it sounds like a challenging, but cool idea.

I don't see the transverse layout working for your intended plan and would suggest using a proper longitudinal layout with a proper transaxle (like a Porsche - what the Japanese "Esprit" NSX did mounting the NSX V6 longitudinally).

Since the rotary is small height wise, you MIGHT be able to fit it without modifying the fire wall, but like the Esprit NSX, you will have to remove the stock fuel tank for the engine to clear and make a custom one. If the 4 rotor is too long, you will probably have to cut and modify the firewall for clearance, but this will take space inside the cabin of the car.

It's not going to be easy or cheap, but it'd be cool. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll be sure to start a build thread in a few years, haha. Just going through university for mechanical engineering now, so I hardly have the funds for an NSX atm (let alone a 4 rotor build). It will be N/A peripheral ported, dry sump etc. Going the whole mile on it.

well I say dont Kill/cut up another NSX they are starting to become unicorns by the minute

went to a dinner last night and had most of the people waiting in line to get their car parked were talking to me about my car. how they love it.
" no way its a 1992 " what year did they stop making it.
how many horses, whats my 0-60 time, how many tickets do I have,
does my Girlfriend like driving it, she laughs

then to the Casino, valet guy, I love this car not many of these come thru here,

I say can you park it right there? he says sure no charge sir.

thanks buddy,

come out to get my car a black lotus elise pulls up and the guy gets out smiling thinking he is the center of attention.

about 10 people walk up to my car while I am opening the door for my GF
and start talking about how they like my car and the Lotus guy looked like he was pissed when I said loud enough for him to hear "it will beat any lotus.

I looked at him and smiled he didnt smile back.

point is done cut up another NSX they are beauty inside and out.

yeah making them faster and faster is fun but the next owner might not want all the speed and may just return it to stock.

just think about it. do it on a civic or interga first.

Got more of these dimensional drawings if you need although i get very concerned about hearing of a other NSX potentially having a engine swap done to it.

Cool idea, but we will start running out of NSX's soon.
