Hi, I finally got everything together to call the dealer and make an offer to arrange the purchase... and I go online to find its phone number and the car is no longer listed. Could anybody find out if this car is still for sale for me please? This was a perfect opportunity for me and if I miss this I'm gonna be miserable for another good while

oh I should probably mention that the reason why I can't call and check myself is that I just got back from Korea for the summer and I haven't paid any of my bills for 3 months... and now my cell phone is dead for another few days. Anyway please let me know. This sucks...

I can only assume that this is some kind of a joke...right?

You're really asking the people on the board to make a phone call for you? I can understand a weird circumstance by which your phone would be out, but you don't have any other access to a phone? No pay phones? No callling cards?

If this is not a joke....I suggest you wait a few years until your finances and/or situation gets straightened out.

Well he didn't say he couldn't afford the bills... just that he neglected to pay them for 3 months. =) Either case... bad bad!

I'm sorry I let my feelings get away with my judgement. I guess I was asking for a little too much. I thought I've told everybody that I am a college student from another country who's been saving up for 6 years for this kind of occasion. Yes I am financially ready for a $25K car, but no I have not paied my bills while I was overseas and couldn't get the cell phone working again in time. This car just sounded too good for me to be true and when I found out that it could already be sold, I made a stupid decision, a mistake, and asked everybody something I shouldn't have. I didn't think asking to making a phone call for me would have been such a big deal between all these great NSX owners who I thought would understand my situation. I thought I was asking for a small favor and that would have meant a lot for me. Well I'm sorry everyone if I made this sound like some kind of a joke, but I am very serious. I guess this is as far as the NSX Prime can help me get my car... And watch me one of these days I wil post a pic of my own NSX and prove to you all that I have been straight all along.

I'm sorry for letting my emotions take away my ability to make decisions

Since nobody helped you I tried to call from Switzerland. There is a voice mailbox in Spanish, probably telling me to call later... it is still early in the US now. Probably the will begin working in one hour.

I do not think you are to blame because you forgot to pay the bills and they disconntected your phone... and this is for sure nota a reason you do not deserve an NSX!

Anyway, no public phones there?

Yesterday I got tired of waiting for my cell phone to get connected again so I bought a phone card to try calling, but all I got was the answering machine. It was in English though. So for the last 2 days I called 6 or 7 times to get the same message over and over and used up all the credit in my phone card(long distance calls are damn expensive). On my last call I left a message and asked them to call me back, but I haven't heard from them and I'm still waiting for their call. I was hoping someone closer by give it a try... that's all.

Oh and thank you so much for making the call all the way from Switzerland

really nice to know someone still cares! I appreciate your kindness!!!

"...I do not think you are to blame because you forgot to pay the bills and they disconntected your phone..."

And who do you think WOULD be responsible?

Gheba,

I think you'll find this community to be more than helpful and people will go out of their way. I honestly thought "Gookus Maximus" was being facetious when he made that post. It sounded so....well...like a teenager having online-fun. I also thought the story sounded so bizzare...not having ANY way to make a phone call.

If "Gookus Maximum" is legit and is truly interested in an NSX, I surely hope he's able to get the car he desires and afford to take care of it properly.

The reason I sound like a teenager is because I am one. But I don't think that changes anything in my heart regarding my hopes of getting my own NSX. I am so close to getting this one and I am going out of my way to get all the help I can get from this community. For those of you who are helping me, I really appreciate it very much, but if you just want to make negative comments about my actions and get in my way, please stop. I am in a lot of pressure right now, and I can really use some help. Thanks.

oh by the way the dealer contacted me and the car is still avaible. I got the green light from my parents as well and I am on my way to call Morgan from Acura of Portland to set up an arrangement to have the car checked out. Wish me luck!!!

Gookus,

If you want some more advice...

I would ask your parents to understand that the car you're considering purchasing requires a fair amount of maintenance expense.

Assuming it checks out...and knowing that the car has close to 100,000 miles you might want to consider the cost of a timing belt, clutch job, airco service, and all the other little things that could go wrong plus normal maintenance. The NSX is great compared to other exotics, but compared to a Civic, it's much more expensive to own.

BTW, Have you read the FAQ completely with regard to ownership costs?

Also, where are you going to store your new baby? Surely not out in the open around campus? A NSX out in the open, particularly in an urban environment (and I'm very familiar with the CMU campus, BTW) is just asking for trouble. NSXs have been stolen from locked garages, much less sitting on a city street. Not to mention wackos who want to key and damage your car for the hell of it. Perhaps your parents can help you pay for storage as well?

You should also consider the insurance costs too.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from your dream car, but since you mentioned you're a teenager, there are certain rational things that I know can be overlooked in youthful enthusiasm.

Just be sure to budget your funds appropriately.

Regards,
Jim

I just want to say BRAVO to gheba_nsx for lending a hand to make a phone call all the way from Switzerland ! Your kindness will be rewarded, sir.

I would have called myself but my computer was down for repairs all day yesterday and didn't get a chance to read the post until this morning. I sensed the urgency in Gookus' post and really felt that he was sincere.

I'm glad you got a hold of the dealer, son.
That's your NSX! Go get her.

"The reason I sound like a teenager is because I am one." <---- I thought this reply was so funny!

Did you happen to check insurance rates for an NSX in your age bracket? Remember, it's not just the purchase price that you should be concerned about. Maintanence on an older NSX MAY be expensive, if not properly maintained or not having service intervals done.

Just tried to call the # above -- got a spanish voicemail greeting (translates to "please leave a message")

I'd suggest you look elsewhere... also, as others have pointed out "inexpensive" does not necessarily mean "affordable"

I am paying for the car and tax. My parents are taking care of insurance and maintanance. And I don't live on campus. I rent an apartment with my own garage spot. Right now all I have in it is a Aprilia RS50 (little motorcycle). It would sure look nice with an NSX inside. wouldn't you say so?

Sounds like a lot of people are discouraging me from buying an NSX. Is this because I am a student? I'm starting to loose faith...

Its not "discouraging" -- its more of a reality check.

Fact is, owning an NSX can be a financially-challenging endeavor, both with a relatively-steep initial purchase price, plus the ongoing costs (insurance, parking, maintenance and repair)... Am sure you'll hear the same, if not worse, about legitimately comparable cars.

Just be sure you (or your parents, sponsors, etc) knew what you were getting into.

Folks here are just looking out for you. Having said that, the right one will come.

you should really consider passing on this car. you can get a low mileage nsx with up to date maintenance for under $30k.

as for this thread sounding like a joke... it could have something to do with the fact that gookus is korean and he may be translating his thoughts into english. direct translations sometimes come across strange.

i am familiar with cmu's campus as well. when i was a student there from 92-96, it was not rare to see students driving around in exotics, which seems to be the case for schools with high percentage of international students. i dont recall any stories of vandalism or theft.

if your parents are giving you the thumbs up on an nsx, go for it. if they can afford $30k/year for college, i'm sure they can spot you a few grand to cover maintenance cost.

People aren't discouraging you. They are making sure you are taking into account all the additional costs besides the purchase price. It sounds like you've got those covered. Good luck.

It's virtually impossible to find a low mileage NSX with up-to-date maintenance for under $30K. (Ask NetViper.)

Keep in mind that GM was already planning to buy an NSX and repaint it; given that this one is already repainted the color he wants, it probably is the one and only chance he might have to get a low-cost yellow NSX. Depending on the results of Morgan's check-out, it may be a great deal for GM's unique preferences.

Gookus,

No, I don't think it's just because you're a student.

I think it's because...

1. You asked for our advice.

2. You are young.

3. It does sound like you're over-anxious to own a NSX. You don't care about resale value, you don't care if the engine compartment's red and the exterior is yellow, etc.

4. I think the people here are trying to offer our best advice to you. I think those of us who are a bit older know what's it's like to be young and over-anxious and since you asked for our advice. Heck, I would venture to say that many NSX owners, regardless of their age, were over-anxious and purchased a NSX that they should have passed on (me included).

5. If you and your parents can afford the car, understand the maintenance issues and costs involved, if you have a place to properly store the car, then go for it.

None of us are here to dash someone's dreams...but you did ask.

-Jim

BTW: It's "lose" not "loose"

Thanks everyone,

I've made my decision, and my parents are backing me up. One final step though.I am waiting for someone to check out the car before I wire the dealer. Acura of Portland is all booked for used car inspection and Morgan wont be able to take a look at it for a little while. The seller is a private dealer and he wont even give me his address unless the person who is checking out the car makes an appointment(he sounds kinda wierd actually). Anyway, as soon as this last person gives me the green light, I'll buy this car. Can anybody check this car out anytime soon? Eddie Nakato told me he could check it out sometime this week, but I'm afraid he could be too late. So far I've gotten a few people who said they would gladly take a look at the car, but nobody actually did. Perhaps everybody thought this was some kind of a joke as Jimbo warned me. Anyway this is my last favor I will be posting on this Forum. If there is anybody who can take a look at the car anytime soon, please do so. Whether I buy this car or not will be up to you. Here is the cell phone number of the private dealer 503-830-0175 and his name is Pat. As I mentioned earlier, he wont even give me his address so if you decide to take a look you'd have to call him and make an appointment to get his address.

Thanks a lot!!!

I'm sure that the car is not going to be sold before you get someone to inspect it for you. Have you offered to give a deposit on the car? If so, and the "dealer" isn't going to accept a "refundable deposit subject to inspection", then you are better off walking away as fast as you can.

I have purchased and sold numerous cars out of state, and when money is offered in "good faith" the deals have never gone bad. It sounds like this guy is trying to make you panic, and he is succeding.

BTW, why hasn't he given you his office number and/or address so you can verify that he is a legit dealer. Sounds fishy to me.

Be careful and good luck.

Why on earth would a seller not disclose his address to a potential (serious) buyer?!?!?

Sounds very suspecious.

I agree.....but maybe the seller got the same impression of Gookus Maximus that Jimbo first did.
