Emergency brake Button removal

My current chrome is peeling off my button and wanted to replace it. The Acura replacement part is only $4 but I can't seem to remove it.

The service manual does not show how to do this. Anyone have any ideas? I've stripped down the ebrake to bare metal but see no way of removing it. I pull and turn but it's not coming out... Thanks in advance.

I did that on my 91. If you look at the new button you will see that it just screws on. To get the old one off, use something to grab it (and screw it off) Getting the new one on without scratching takes a little more creativity. I used a rubber band that kept my fingers from slipping and did not use any tools.
