Electrical component on engine cover

I have a 2001 T and I would like to remove the engine cover to reduce weight. I noticed there is an electrical component attaching to the drivers side of the cover. I have not been able to determine its purpose based on reading the manual.

Can anyone help? Also, for removing the engine cover should the wires simply be disconnected and left in the engine bay?

Any suggestions or caveats are appreciated!

The electrical connector has a switch that illuminates the dash if the top is not in the engine cover AND not in the normal place (as the cars roof).

the good news is that the light on your dash comes on when the circuit is completed... so you can simply disconnect the switch and the light for the roof will not come on. So when removing the cover either simply disconnect the wires from the switch (easy) or you can follow the sub harness down towards the rear firwall and disconnect the sub harness from the car (and leave it connected to the switch) either way is no problem

By the way I personally run with my engine cover on the car and leave this switch disconnected as i leave the roof in my house (no need for it in southern california... so i have the switch disconnected so the dash light isn't on all the time i drive the car.

Take care

Tom
