Ebay 38K mile NSX for $15K?

I hope whoever won the bid isn't scammed. I saw those same photos on a prior auction for much more money, if I recall. You know what they say, if it sounds too good to be true...

i can shed a little light on this because i happened to purchase that car about 2 months ago in orange county.
whoever is selling this car is advertising the wrong pics, and the wrong vin, as thats a pic of my vin. VERY SHADY.

And the seller made it a private auction. No one can even inform the buyer about the situation.

Someone should inform eBay. STLNSX?

I am new to NSX Prime but wanted to post this reply from the Ebay seller.

LOOKS BAD BE CAREFULL!!!

Dear Joe,
Thank you very much for your email. I appreciate very much your interest in
my car and I am willing to deal with you but please listen to me ok ? I
don't want more money, I know I am selling cheap but for me is not cheap. I
got the car as gift and I am not a greedy person. I just started a business
and curently I am in Europe. $15,000 will be fine for me. I request half
payment in advance if can. If you don't have that amount than $3,000 will be
fine. Also I need to know when can you wire the payment to me. I will be
back in US after Holidays, on 2nd or 3rd of Jan 2003.

Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon.

Kindest regards,
Susan

Hi All,

I was the highest bidder for that NSX on enay, and this person "Susan" has emailed me something similar to the last repost. And to STLNSX, is that really your car and VIN #? Please help with options. Thanks a lot to all that is concern.

this overseas, wiring money, western union, country hopping, scam is becoming more and more prevalent on ebay. someone tried to pull the same scam on me with a $1k pioneer head unit. once you wire the money, they can get their hands on it. fake id's are apparently easy to get overseas, and western union doesn't take any responsibility for the transactions, and according to the rep, don't really check identification that well. don't fall for the scam! tread carefully. AND don't fall for the 'send the money in your name to prove the funds are there, then when you get the merchandise you can transfer the money to my name' scam. western told me that happens a lot. what they do is get an id in your name and access the money. they've got this scam pretty well covered.
it's ashame that is has migrated to the nsx market. but, high dollar products are probably the best target.

uh where did my post go? I'll keep it short and sweet this time.
1. yes those are pics of my car. the same ones advertised on ebay about a month b4 i bought my car in september.
2. That is a pic of my vin that was also listed in that auction months ago.
3. always have a 3rd party check a car b4 buying, or sending a deposit.
4. losing a 300.00 plane ticket is better than a 3000.00 "deposit"

bottom line is trust your instincts and be careful

Randy

The only good thing here is that STLNSX should feel flattered that the scammers chose his beautiful car to try their little trick.

What legal recourse does ebay have on people that try to do this? I have seen this happen a few times now regarding NSX's.

Sellers be wary also!

A big thing I have been hearing now is someone who is a buyer sends you payment + money for an item.

Let's say you sell something for $1k - they send you a cashier's check for $3k and ask for you to wire back $2k and send the item. Usually they say the allready made it out and trust you to send back the money, etc.

Problem is the cashier's check is BOGUS and often takes several days to uncover. By that time you have sent the product and wired the money. This happened to a friend of my wife's here in St. Louis and apperently is common as it is easy to obtain official looking cashier's checks.

Yeah it is scary! I am the one that won the auction and I just recieved a reply from her last night:

You won my car. Wow, was so fast. I hope you won't give me headaches. As you
can see I am a very good trader and I do not accept changes to my terms. I
request at least %10 in advance payable with wire bank transfer to my
current location, Europe. I left my auction to start on schedule to have
something clear when I am back after 2nd Jan 2003. I hope you understand
what I am saying. I need also you shipping address or a day after 2nd Jan to
meet and give you the keys and title. I need also confirmation about
completing wire transfer to Europe. When I get details from you I will
forward instructions.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply.

Regards,
Susan

I have sent 3 emails asking her to give me her phone number or for her to contact me over the phone, but she/he never seems to respond to that, she just keeps telling me to wire her the 10% to Bankers Trust Company in New York.

I am going to report this to eBay in a few hours.

One other point about business dealings with someone in a foreign country. There is often little to no recourse if it goes bad, so you can kiss your money good-bye.

'nuff said.

That say's it all UmmmOk. That says it all. Don't bother proceeding with caution -- just don't proceed at all. Anybody that is as deceitful as to not even post accurate pics of their car is somebody that should not be touched!! Foreign-resident issues exacerbate the situation. Your credibility on eBay should not be damaged once you alert them to the issues at hand.

Regards.

By the way.. what if the person is in US, speaking really broken english and use a foreign account as cover up but in reality he is in the US? would it be possible? ( since a NY bank was mentioned.. makes me starting to think that he she got connections in the US or he she is in the US the first place!) If this is the case.. would it be possible to hunt he she down?

So what does he/she say about having the car inspected? 15k for a nsx with 38k miles, even if it was a rebuilt title it would be a steal. They say they aren't greedy, whats greedy about getting what the car's worth? This has SCAM written all over it.

Wire funds to escrow if anything...sound awefully fishy...BTW...I am going to email her and ask if the winning bidder should not go through with the sale...if she would be willing to sell it to me instead of relisting it. I'll post the results.

Also, click on her feedback...she has been selling trinkets from "Cheeseland" Minnesota... Also, the winning bidder can look up her personal info like phone number and address on eBay really easily.

I dont believe the original user of that ebay acct. was a fraudulent seller.. the feedback is undeniable. If you notice there are shades next to the name. that means someone changed the contact info on the acct. within the last 30 days. It was actually changed the same day the nsx auction was listed leading me to believe someone hacked into the acct, and is using the original account owners good name to pull this nsx scam. It is obviously a scam.. VERY obvious.

Oh how I wish this was true. Ebay real needs to overhaul the feedback system. I have sold on ebay before and can tell you that ebay does not give a damn about who is playing it straight and who is f...ing people over. I have several items that have not been paid for. After 2 weeks e bay has refunded my sellers fees. What they will NOT do is protect my feedback from the non payers. I want to leave negative feedback for the non payers but I know they will retaliate and leave negative feedback on my 300+ positive account. I now have 5 negative feedbacks on my account from people who did not pay after the auction ended, and do not want any more. I have several ideas that ebay could easily put in place to fix the problem, I wish I knew how to copyright my ideas because they would work well. The sad part of the situation is that ebay really does not care about whose right and whose wrong they just want their fees and to be left alone. If I owned such a great business I would be a little less greedy and invest a little more profit back in the business to deal with costumer service, I think this will be ebays downfall.

Depending on the email service used, it may be possible to get a rough idea of the sender's geographical location. The trick is to use the "view all headers" or equivalent in your email reader program and look for the lines that say something along these lines:

Received: from somehost.somedomain.com (on some date) for [email protected]
etc, etc.

The bottom couple of Received lines can *sometimes* provide a clue as to the location of the sender (depending on how sloppy and/or lucky they are). If the people who have received email from the "seller" can get those Received: lines from the emails and post them here, I would be happy to analyze them and post my findings.

Hi Jerry,

I checked the emails he/she sent me, but I didnt find the codes you were talking about. Is there another way to find it?

Almost certainly those header lines are in the email, it is just a matter of coaxing your email program into showing them to you. What do you use to read your email, perhaps I, or someone else on the forum is familiar with it and can tell you the procedure to make them visible.

Meanwhile, I can semi-confirm STLNSX's claim to ownership of the vehicle. I ran it through carfax and the records show a transfer of ownership from Newport Beach, Cali to Ballwin, Missouri on sept 25 and STLNSX's profile lists St Louis, Missouri as his location, Ballwin being a suburb according to mapquest. Mileage is ~12K, significantly less than the ebay listing's claim of 38K.

AGREED! Ebay is an EXCELLENT resource w/ some MAJOR downfalls. I still find it absolutley amazing that a company of this size has Absolutely zero phone support for anything and horrible email support.
