Earthquake

It gave me a pretty good jolt on the 4th floor of my office building, 75 miles from the epicenter. It lasted about 45 seconds, which is fairly long...

For those on the WC, I grew up there in the Bay Area and only moved back east a few years ago. I lived through Loma Prieta in '89, and the last significant one (5.4 or so) I witnessed occurred only 12 miles from my house. The EC shakes travel a lot further and don't dissipate energy like the WC does. Maybe it was the fact I was in an office building, but it shook way more than any other I've witnessed, including the '89 one.

Agreed. I was in a pretty good one out in CA back in the summer of 2001. Compared to the one we had here, this one felt much more intense. The east coast is hard rock, so the force travels much farther and stays very intense. I was on the 5th floor of my office building in Arlington standing up and I could feel the entire building swaying. It was MUCH different than on the west coast.

in '89 I was on the 2nd floor of my parents house when the quake struck. As I was going down the stairs it shook with enough force to bounce me from wall to wall as I was making my way down. The steel desk locked drawers where forced open and we lost 3 feet of swimming pool water. The hill below looked like it was hit with a tsunami. the mud and rocks carried down the driveway and onto the street below.

My parents house resides on clay.
