E55? Anything better?

Buy new or near new if you buy a AMG car. Make sure you have a warranty! I have a SL55 AMG and blew the rear struts out on a super hard launch. If the car was not under warranty it would have been thousands out of pocket. The amount you will save by buying a 3 year old car is just not worth it. There is a reason why 3 year old AMG cars out of warranty sell for a lot less than 1 year old cars with a warranty.

I was gonna say "I can't believe someone suggested a Chrysler in here", but then I saw who posted it, and was no longer surprised.

HAHAHA

Theres no way an SRT8 is even close to an E55. The only characerstic they share is that they both have 4 doors. The E55 is VEEERY fast and the SRT8 is very slow. I raced one and i blew it away. Iv also raced my firends E55 and it raped me. The SRT8 doesnt even do 0-60 in under 5 seconds stock which both the other cars do. The E55 does it in 4.3! and the m5 does it in 4.8.
There is 425 horsepower in the SRt8 and 400 in the M5 and theyre both 4 doors and m5 is still faster. That just shows you how muich american cars arent tuned and suck. I think that car is garbage and the M5 and E55 are better choices. I thik You should go with the M5 just bacause its the cheapest out of all the 3. But u said u wanted an Auto so the E55 would be a good decision.

Thanks guys, going to drive a few E55's this weekend if I have time. I am in no rush at all just looking. Also I wonder how that new Lexus Sports car is going to be. Also the more I look the more people say get the E55 ONLY if it's under warr. Is the car that really a POS? lol

i'll have to magazine race this reply, since i don't own either. the 300c is about 4200 lbs and m5 3800. thats why the m5 is faster. what the hell does tuning have to do with it? 425 hp is 425hp, tuned or not. the only thing to infer is that some guy is punching the wrong keys at the computer, and the srt8 is "supposed" to have 500 hp but instead they misprogrammed it at the factory?

fwiw the major mags have praised the performance of the srt8 and likened it to the poor mans e55.Of course "poor" is relative. They say the srt8 looks like it should'nt handle and stop as well as it does for all its size and heft.

Wife says E55 is old school. You need to get the E63.

At least according to the E55 MB forums I have been visiting, the new E63 is NA and even though it has about 40 more HP, it is a bit slower than the supercharged E55 off the line. (would an E55 enthusiast ever be biased though? ) Reviews I have read show them to be about the same though. Regardless, 4.3 seconds 0 to 60 in a bone stock four door that weighs almost 4100 pounds is pretty impressive.

Exactly! Buy the 63 THEN put a supercharger on it. OH MAN!!! BOOMBOSTIC ACCELERATION

Yes, I agree ,best to leave out the religious/ethnic joke/slanderous wisecracks.

Do they even have a blower for the E63 yet? Is that car pretty good any 1st hand exp. with one? Also I will try to find a RS6 to drive as well. I would like to get something that I can keep for 5+ years, maybe 6-7 if I could and the more I look the more I look at Lexus for something that will last.

At our SELOC, SE track day meet, we were honored to have the East Coast Benz group make it part of their weekend.

Mercedes N/A brought a CLS 65 and E63...Then there were members there with E55s.
The E55s were edging out the E63s on the track, though all were in teh low to mid 12s....
SL 65s were in the 11s and we had a modded G-55 Wagon, in the 11's!!!!

Crazy!!!

waw the sl65 AMG such an amazing car and handles excellent. If i will ever want a sporty but comfortable car i would get an sl65 .And just Waite benz is hitting the roof with a new sl in late of 07 .

Ok I, like Ryanmcd2, have decided that I would like to go with an E55 as well. I guess I am going to have to put my beloved Phaeton up for sale. :( (I've got the torque itch again) Anyone have suggestions on the best place to find one of these cars as close to wholesale as possible?

EBAY YAY:biggrin:

Would like to avoid all the fraud on ebay and unknown crap in general. Any other suggestions?

I test drove one of these cars on Friday. Man can it throw you back in the seat  and the seats are just amazing. They grip you like nothing else I have ever been in.

The SL's are not that comfortable on long trips. As a matter of fact the seats will put you ass to sleep if you don't keep shifting and also use the pulse option.

looks like i'm buying an RS6 with under 7000 miles on the clock in the next month or so. i went through the same exact debate here, set mybudget at about $50k, then bumped it to $70 then figured ah hell, make it an even $100k, and was holding out for the upcoming rs6 (580 hp, about $100k supposedly). Later decided $100k is toomuch to spend on yet another car when i found the current rs6 with so few miles and much cheaper.

I looked extensively into the new M5, ctsV, and e55. Didn't care for CTSv styling or the gadgetry of the M5, and my wife says only stuck up asswipes drive MB and thus she didn't want me to get one. that left the rs6...

i'd still like a little quicker accelleration (e55 or m5), but a chip will fix that (turbo woot woot), and i do like the e55 styling and comfort, but wifey says no.

Okay, I was looking at the 2002+ NSX and the 996 TT and a bunch of other crap but I think I want a fast tank for a little while. I want a auto and was looking at the 2003ish E55 MB. Can anyone thing of anything else around the 45-55k price that is as fast and as nice as this?
I didn't mention this the first time but you can turbo a GS 300 or GS 400/430. The guy I'm meeting with today but 475 to the wheels in September.

Just anothe suggestion.
