Double DIN video head unit thread

I finally installed my NX5000. I couldn't have picked a worst weekend...it was 109 degrees...no lie!
Image 1: Console with everything removed
Image 2: ECU (Orange wire on 12 wire plug used for VSS)
Image 3 & 4: Stereo installed (hole will be used as a storage compartment.

I still need to finish the console. I really don't like the glare....hope I can solve it.

Nice work so far. How bad is the glare?
Since you still have work to do on the dash, is there a way to set the unit to angle more perpendicular and either create a sort of "hood" at the top to shield sunlight, or "shelf" below the unit to keep the original dash shape intact while creating a more desireable angle?
Don't know if any of that makes sense, and its probably hard as hell to do! But keep it up! :)

The glare is pretty bad. There was a post showing some custom dash that had a "hood" fabricated into it. I have tried to find the post, but can't find it.

A hood would only protect you from the glare coming in at that angle. Unfortunately, glare comes in from all angles. The best protection is the head unit mounted horizontally as much as possible. The JVC makes the problem a little worse by having a reflective, shiny face.

BUT, I just ordered a screen protector from eBay for my Kenwood. It says it's anti-glare. I'll report how it works out. Todd, they also make one for your unit. I'm sure it's just a cut out stick on unit. For $20, it's worth testing out. But don't waste your money yet, let me get mine first and do some testing.

malibu,
please let us know how the anti-glare works. i just bought a dnx7100 so may be in a market for one too.
thx

I drove at night for the first time tonight with the new stereo....damn is it nice to see this thing fully lit up at night... so easy to read. I really does make a huge difference in the look of the interior... actually looks modern

Well... I just blew the budget and bought and new Alpine amp and a set of Focal K2P 6.5" speakers for the doors. This is added to the new console JVC NX5000, the sub from speaker plate from zetoolman. Should be here in a week or so.

So...lets add this up!

Console: $250
Stereo: $600
Bluetooth adapter: $85
Sub and speaker plates: $680
Alpine Amp: $500
Focal Speakers: $500
Misc parts: $50.00
Total: $2,665.00

Glad I didn't add this up prior to starting the project. All I can say is that I caught the stereo bug.

I don't want to hear anything out of you Bradley! LOL

So... after unknown amount of months.... the amp, speakers and sub are all getting installed tomorrow!!! Can't wait to hear it. Now all I have to do if finish the dash.

i am finishing up an install of kenwood dnx7100. i think that the reverse tilt is quite important for nsx owners. it provides about 10 degrees of incline as compared with standard installation. glare is reduced.

Hi

Looking forward to this. I hope you have a lot of pictures. I plan on a Kenwood unit myself one of these days.

I have settled on the speakers I want which is Seas Lotus reference and then a good quality sub. I have a Zeetoolbox ready here. The Hrant mats with red edge and a hole for the sub are already put in the car.

Only thing I need to do now is to rob the pension from only a few elderly people and I would have the money to buy the speakers. Maybe not only a few :-)

I will go for the Phoenix Gold amp I have here and then upgrade when I get the money.

Regards

I worked on the storage compartment for an hour today and here is what it looks like so far. I had to cut and epoxy it all together. There is enough room for sunglasses or phone and wallet. I am going to either line it with material so things I put in it don't get scratched. I know it looks hacked right now, but will look good when it is done.

Hope to have it done in a couple weeks.

Yeah, nice work, you let me know when this is into full production :)

The amount of glare you are seeing is due to the angle of the picture. If I was looking at the screen from this angle, my head would be sticking out the t-top 2 feet and I would look Jaws from James Bond.

Pioneer AVIC-D3 Demonstration Video

The Pioneer AVIC-D3 has the vehicle dynamics display and offers five different color selections to match interior lighting - too bad one of them isn't orange.

Panasonic Strada CN-NVD905U Review Video

The Panasonic Strada offers no remote control at all - having a remote is very important to me, as I am 6' and leaning forward to reach the unit would be a pain. Disappointingly, nothing can be loaded to the hard drive - it is for Nav only. Bluetooth functionality is reported to be very limited.

Actually you can adjust the colors to match the color of illumination of the car
