I'm going to take the plung and install tweeters in the forward plastic covers on top of the window sill. I need to get the door panels off to get at the speaker wiring. I know over time i've read posts about how to do this and helpful hints to avoid scratching, but for the life of me a search isn't bringing up what I need. I'd appreciated being pointed in the right direction. My questions are:

1. Where are the best instructions posted? I thought there was a procedure in FAQ but I can't find it.

2. I read that you must remove the front and rear plastic covers at the top of the door cover by "releasing the clips". How? I don't want to start pushing and pulling and break something.

3. You need to pry the piece out to expose the screws near the door handle. Is there danger of breaking it? How is it best to do this.

4. Are there any saftey precautions I need to take to ensure nothing gets scratched or damaged?

If there are any other tips or "tricks of the trade" I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance and wish me luck.

The front and rear plastic sash covers pull straight off - I used a cloth covered flat screwdriver blade to gently pry them away from the door. Just work your way around the perimeter of each sash cover until it comes off.

The piece covering the door handle slides out toward the rear of the car. Right toward the middle of the piece at the inside rear are plastic tabs that must clear the part of the door panel adjacent to the piece. I again used a cloth covered flat screwdriver blade to lift the piece at its midpoint at the rear so I could get the plastic tabs to clear as I pulled the piece rearward. The piece is pretty flexible.

Good luck!

I ordered the tweeters and will do it next weekend. Once I get the door panel off how easy is it to get to the speaker wires to connect the tweeties. I'm talking about the wire going from the amp to the speakers.

Also, when i'm in there should I grease the window track? What grease should I use? I have some silicon grease. It never dries out. Is that good?

Thanks

Mikec:

Ain't no external wires from the amp to the speaker, because both are inside an integrated, sealed enclosure. The harness connector just brings in power/ground, and the low-level input to the amp from the head end. You can perhaps open the enclosure, tap into the amp output, run it through a crossover, and bring your own wires out of the enclosure to the tweeter. You'd have to make your own hole in the enclosure, and seal it when you're done as well. I'm assuming the amp wouldn't have a problem driving the tweeter through a crossover(?).

The silicone grease might work OK, but I used the Honda-recommended special (expensive) hi-temp urea grease with the Honda part number when I did mine. I followed their lead because they usually know what they're talkin' about, and I didn't want to be back in that door for a long time :)

Just noticed - yours is so new you might not really even need to lube the window mechanism(?).
